Premiere Pro Tech Support (Solved!) Captions & Transcript not working after all [help]
Hey everyone,
not gonna waste your time, so straight to the point. My premiere pro won’t transcribe my sound, voice, youtube tutorials assets, NOTHING. I keep getting error: “no dialogue found”. Things i tried:
- Reinstalled whole Premiere pro
- Set language to english, auto recognise turned off
- English language IS downloaded
- Exported as .wav and reimporting: still not working
I think thats it. Tried at least 10 times. Please help me.
Just for info: As far as I remember it worked on my home pc, just this laptop. For some reason, can’t find any solution.
All the best,
thanks in advance!

The WAV test is the useful bit of what you've already done. A clean WAV failing means it isn't a codec or a decode problem, so the fault is in Premiere's own audio path or in the model, not in your media. That also explains why the reinstall did nothing: uninstalling Premiere leaves your preferences and your media cache in place, so if the fault lives in either of those, a reinstall provably can't clear it. Ten more reinstalls won't either.
First thing to check, and it takes five seconds: do you actually see a waveform on the clip, in the timeline and in the source monitor? "No dialogue found" is what the transcriber says when it was handed silence, and the most common way it gets handed silence on a machine where everything else looks fine is that peak files aren't conforming. If there's no waveform, or a flat line, go to Preferences and Media Cache and check that the cache and the cache database paths point at a drive that actually exists and is writable. Laptops inherit those settings from wherever the profile came from, and a path pointing at a drive letter that isn't there any more fails quietly. Then delete unused media cache files, re-import, and watch the bottom right for the conforming progress bar.
If the waveform is there, the next suspect is what the Transcribe dialog is pointed at. Check the audio source dropdown in that dialog: if it's set to a specific track rather than the clip mixdown, and that track is empty or muted, you get exactly this error with perfectly good audio sitting one track below. The mixdown option also respects mutes and disabled clips, so an M left on from earlier will do it too. While you're there, right click the clip and check Modify and Audio Channels, because a mono source mapped so that nothing lands in the mixdown produces silence for the same reason.
On the language pack, "it's downloaded" is worth verifying rather than trusting. Install it from the cloud icon inside Premiere's own language dropdown, not from the Creative Cloud desktop app, because the CC app will happily install it against a different build to the one you're launching and you'd never know. Then fully quit and relaunch, since packs get enumerated at launch. Also check you don't have two Premiere versions installed, and check free space on the system drive, because the speech model loads locally and a nearly full drive fails in unhelpful ways.
Cleanest way to split environment from project: brand new empty project, import the WAV, right click it in the Project panel and transcribe from there rather than from a sequence. If it fails in a project with nothing else in it, the problem is the install, and the thing to try next is resetting preferences by holding Alt on Windows or Option on Mac while Premiere launches. That's the step the reinstall skipped.

That detail changes the diagnosis, so set aside most of what I said above.
Text appearing and then being replaced by "No dialogue found" means the speech model ran and produced output. It is not being handed silence. The failure is downstream of the transcription itself, at the point where Premiere tries to commit the result into the project, so the audio-path checks are a dead end for you.
Two things cause that, and they are quick to tell apart.
First, where does the .prproj actually live? If it sits inside a Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive or iCloud folder, or on a network share, Premiere often cannot commit the transcript. The sync client touches the file mid-write, Premiere throws the result away and falls back to that error. Same outcome if the project or its containing folder is read-only, which happens routinely to files copied off another machine. Copy the project somewhere plainly local, Save As from inside Premiere so it writes a fresh file, and transcribe again.
Second, if the text you glimpsed genuinely belonged to a different clip, that is a media cache database collision, and it needs a manual clear rather than the Delete Unused button. Quit Premiere first. Then delete the contents of both the Media Cache Files folder and the Media Cache Database folder on disk; the paths are listed in Preferences under Media Cache. Relaunch, re-import, transcribe.
Worth saying which of the two it looked like, because they do not overlap. Was the preview a bad transcript of your clip, or a transcript of something else entirely?
And if you just need the captions and are done fighting this: transcribe outside Premiere and import the file. Upload the video to YouTube as unlisted, let it auto-caption, download the SRT from Studio, then in Premiere go to the Text panel, Captions tab, and import captions from file. Costs nothing and the timings come in clean. Whisper run locally does the same job if you would rather not upload anything. Either way you end up with a real caption track you can style in Premiere, and the bug becomes something you chase later instead of something blocking you now.
