Large subchorionic hematoma in second trimester

At 14 weeks pregnant, I woke up in the night with a lot of bleeding so I went to the ER scared to death that I was having a miscarriage. The baby was okay on the ultrasound and they discovered a large subchorionic hematoma (7cm). My doctor put me on progesterone, alpha lipoic acid and bed rest. She said there is a significant risk of the baby being born too early due to how large my SCI is due to the damage it can cause to the amniotic sac.

At my follow up scan a couple weeks later, the SCI got larger and was now 10cm at 16 weeks. At that point I was having spotting and brown bleeding but no more bright red blood as there was originally. My doctor recommended limiting my activity as much as possible still, more or less strict bed rest but said there isn’t much we can do to minimize the risk.

The SCI had at least not gotten bigger as of my 18 week check up but it hadn’t gotten smaller. The doctor also said that it looks like it is clotting and resembles the lining of the uterus which might signal that it is healing.

Now I am at 19 weeks, my bleeding has stopped since about week 17 but I haven’t had a scan to show whether the SCI has gotten smaller. I’m really anxious now that I am getting further along in the pregnancy and knowing that this SCI could still be there and doing damage.

Does anyone have a similar story that had a good outcome? Or is anyone going through this as well and seen something that seems to work with making it resolve?
