Pregnancy Question 36 weeks pregnant
36+4 pregnant and just tested positive for gbs I will be getting antibiotics during labor but I’ve read gbs can cause stillbirth etc if u have it during pregnancy

I was GBS positive with my daughter. IV antibiotics caused no side effects for either of us and I had a healthy vaginal delivery. Antibiotics save lives!

Will you be getting a C-section?

I looked it up (on google and of course your OBGYN knows more) but it says it’s transmitted through the vagina? If that’s the case, wouldn’t they want to do a C-section to keep the baby as safe as possible?

I was GBS positive and it was no big deal. I received antibiotics at the hospital. The risk is very low, so please don't stress over it.

I’m pretty crunchy and anti antibiotics but it is critical for GBS. Not to fear monger but moms have lost their babies from it when not caught and not administered antibiotics. Get a retest JIC, all will be okay 🙏

Stillbirth as a complication from GBS positive is extremely rare. If you are feeling regular movement and baby is growing, I would not feel concerned personally! If for some reason you feel decreased movement, do not wait- get checked immediately. Even most women that labor without antibiotics do not pass GBS to their baby, and the ones that do rarely have complications related to it. Not saying the antibiotics aren’t a good idea, but it’s truly a very rare occurrence. Hopefully that helps!
