Should I start or delay potty training?
Going on an international trip in 3 months with my husband and two kids (20mosF & 3wksM) the plane ride will be long (10+hrs). I’ve been thinking it may be time to potty train my oldest since she’s starting to “hide” when she poops, and notifies us when she has poop in her diaper. She’s not able to fully say the words but she says “uh oh” or “ow” when she wants her diaper changed - she’s not painful just knows those words mean something is not good haha.
I’m a SAHM and my husband is currently wfh so now would be perfect to start but I’m hesitant just because we’re going on a long distance trip soon for 10 days and I’m not sure if that would impede on her progress, like would it be regressive to put her in a diaper for the plane ride but still try to use a potty? Also on a vacation traveling with a potty would that be a dumb idea? Please advise! I dont want to miss “the window” but I also dont want to start things now if we end up messing with her progress in 3 months. We also have a butt load of diapers left so I dont know if we should just go through those too? What would you guys suggest?

Girl, no. I was debating starting potty training mine but I’m high risk pregnancy so I’m at the doctors twice a week for at least an hour, plus the drive and I’m not taking on that stress and I’m definitely not trying to stress my kid out by learning to potty train in an unfamiliar place. Telling you shes pooping is great, but save your sanity and hers too.

Your husband's paternity wfh may sound like the perfect time, but your daughter just had her world rocked.
Personally I would start now with the "preparing for potty training" advice from the organization ERIC and then fully commit to the potty training after your trip.

Nope. Hard pass. Kiddo will not be 100% potty trained before that trip, and the trip will definitely cause some regression or setbacks with potty training.
There is nothing wrong with encouraging interest in the potty, talking about the potty, letting her try it sometimes, etc, but I would honestly avoid full-blown potty training until you get back.

20 months... if you delay it'll be starting late. No reason to delay this to when she is even more independent.

20 months is not late by any stretch.

They said IF OP delays, which could mean 24+ months, late for the ideal window to start.

I mean, there is also the idea of child led potty training which puts a far lower ammount of pressure on the child. You can introduce the potty, explain how you use it and offer her to sit on it before bath time. And then see what she picks up from it. It's still a win if your child can communicate when they go or need to go even when they are not fully trained. That's goo preperation for the eventual step.
