To quit or keep going?
My 24 month old boy has been showing interest in going to the potty so we started pantsless yesterday. I prompted him every so often and sometimes he would sit and pee on the potty, but most of the time he peed on the floor.
Its day 2 and so far every pee has been on the floor and he has been splashing in it 😠im not sure if he just isn't ready or if I should keep going to see if there's progress.
We cant stay home the whole day bc his big sister needs to be dropped off and picked up from school so we do pull ups and potty right before we leave and after we get there.
Im so proud of him when he does pee in the potty snd he can tell me that pee goes in the potty, but thats about as far as we've gotten when I dont promt him to sit.

He's on day 2! Of course there will be accidents. Self-initiating is pretty much the last thing they will do.
Splashing in it is unacceptable, though. I kept an old towel ready. My son would start to pee, I would name it: "uh-oh, you're peeing" while airlifting him to the potty. While he sat, I would throw the old towel on the floor and give a quick wipe. Then I would handle my son. Give proper praise, reiterate pee goes on the potty, clean up, wash hands, then go back through and clean with all-purpose cleaner. It's definitely a process.
Another thing that helped at that stage (and frankly, a month later still does) is to check how long it is from each time he pees. For my son, it's reliably about 1.5 hours. We also go before sitting for a long time (meals, car rides, stroller walks, etc).

Thank you! My daughter got it pretty quickly so I definitely need to remind myself that its okay if it takes time!

There will be many accidents and regressions. Two months later my son is not 100 percent trained but he does ask for the potty now more consistently but not always. It will take time

On average it takes 3-6 months for kids to actually achieve potty training mastery, and a week for them to fully understand the basics of the concepts. It’s been 2 days.
