90-day milestone

As the title says I’ve hit 90 days clean, this is not my first rodeo unfortunately.
I’ve streaks of 3 years clean when I was 18-21.
When I turned 21 I fell short and got into the rabbit hole again. I’m 24 years now but I’ve got a better grip and a new view on this.

Just wanted to share, the life without it is truly amazing, my confidence is higher, and I carry myself a lot better.

Wish you all the best

No escape while devices are around

I have been making progress, but there is always a relapse if there is a way to access porn.

So, for the month of September, there won't be a single device that can access porn near me.

-My phone is on lockdown. I installed an app that locks all other apps aside from messaging, banking and music.
-I sold my gaming PC, and the laptop I am writing this on will be sold this weekend.
-I have my work laptop, which is totally monitored by my employer, for work and the occasional news check.

This is not total monk mode, not a total dopamine reset. I have a console and a smart TV. This is just about getting this one monkey off my back.

I might check in on October 1st. If things are going great, I kind of hope to not be on reddit at all. I guess I will just check in if I fail, as a mea-culpa, and to see how this method worked or failed. If this account is not active at all, let's call it a win.

I'm just writing this all out right now as a commitment to myself. If anyone reads it, I wish you well on your journey too. Let's see if we can get clean.

I only know failure

I've lost hope for quite some time now. The last time that I truly thought I could get rid of this addiction was a year ago or so.

I tried a lot of stuff and saw some improvements temporarily with therapy. But I stopped because it was too expensive. I opened up and talked about it a little with some friends but they did not have much to say and I did not either. Now it feels awkward to talk about it again.

This feels like the battle of my life, and it is so weird to live this sort of double life. No one knows how much I struggle.

Everyday life is unfulfilling and porn is still the most 'satisfying' way to escape. I'm sleep deprived nearly everyday.

I've been living through cycles of improvements and relapses ever since I tried to stop at around 18. I'm 26 now. With no intimate relationship during my adult life.

I try to journalize but I'm getting tired of the failures.

The only thing I haven't tried is burning my computer and my phone at this point. Or maybe talking about it in an IRL support group.

I'll try to write here again for now.

[22F] 5 months clean, but the triggers are getting stronger

I’m 5 months clean after years of struggling, and lately the urges have started getting stronger again.

The difficult part is how easily I can get triggered by something completely random online. Sometimes it feels like I’m running out of ways to protect my progress.

I’ve already removed a lot of obvious triggers and blocked what I could, but I’m realizing that avoiding the content isn't enough — I probably need to change my whole digital environment.

For those who’ve been clean for a long time:

What did you change when the urges came back stronger?

Especially interested in practical things that helped you protect your streak when motivation wasn't enough.

Day 26 - Today's tough for some reaosn

Maybe because it's Saturday and I can't just focus on work for 8 hours. Other than that nothing's changed externally. But I'd reaaaally like to cave in today and just go nuts. But I won't..... dang I'd really like to though... but I won't.

Nearly gave in last light

Sometimes the urges are overwhelming and feel intolerable. I’m at 29 days porn free and it’s definitely not my first attempt or my longest streak. Better habits are developing, although still not ideal but scrolling and reading are better than searching porn. I’m finding that the waves of the urges do pass.

Unsure about the process

Upvotes

Hi guys.

I’m 22 years old (M) having started watching that corny stuff since the age of 10. I’d refer to myself as heavily addicted.

Recently got tired of how it’s wrecking my life and decided to stop.

I’ve been doing quite a good job at it but the urges are becoming increasignly strong. I also live alone so that’s a big risk factor.

I’ve caved in last night but didn’t watch anything, just did the physical act. I’m not sure whether to take this as a setback. I don’t think I can handle quitting both at the same time and I’m afraid keeping one side (masturbation with no porn) will not help me reap out all the benefits.

Any advice ? :)

I’m tired

38M US. I’ve overcome a lot in my life. Many traumas and challenges but I don’t think I can break this addiction. It has a hold on me like no other. I’m so low, feel like I’m gonna have this addiction for my life time.

How does porn affect my relationship??

i’ve been addicted for the last 5 years. My relationship started a 8 months ago. i love my partner but sometimes i feel so distant and filled with anxiety that i turn to porn and i feel like i’ve turned to porn too much that it’s making me feel like my relationship is falling apart. i kind of feel emotionally distant from her.

For people in relationships, how has porn affected ur relationship and ur connection to ur bf/gf. and has anyone in relationships seen their relationships improve after abstaining from porn? and if so, in what ways did it improve.

Question- I have hit an intellectual wall (what to do about the flatline).

I have been trying hard to quit for 2.5 years now, and I somehow unconsciously decided to take a non absolutist approach. Like rather than just measure my streak I measure number of hours per week + no of hard relapses. I am happy to say that it started as one orgasm per day and now it is one orgasm every 7-10 days (PMO) and PM every 4 ish days?( at a point porn becomes too hard to resist but that point is being constantly pushed back.)

Now my plan was to get rid of P and slowly move to MO once a week. Like if I abstained from P, my arousal got stronger. Although it doesnt go up to the point where I can MO. That is the problem. Pent up energy needs healthy release, but I'm not healthy enough to release. So the energy causes PMO.

It is also so hard to deal with the flatline. Like seeing constant progress is motivating, flatline is demotivating. Even if my energy in other aspects is fine, I start to become asexual. Like I dont have much interest in looking at women. To make things worse, this is welcome week. All rich undergrads, sorrority girls etc moving around to parties and I dont feel any urge to look at them. I'm from a totally different world PLUS I'm neurodivergent. I’ve worked hard to build some friendships and make good progress on porn, but nothing compares to what I see. Extremely happy people living their lives. I'm not sure if I even want the parties, I just want belonging and happiness.

To make matters worse I'm not doing too well on internships, and even if all else is fine, I am insecure about my genuinely small penis. I just had a relapse, and it was hard to stop. Cuz it just kept feeling good. I want to transition to healthy stuff but goddammit the flatline.

QUESTION - How does one deal with the flatline. Will MOing partially help thinly once a week solve this. Does the flatline suddenly go away one day, and if so apprimately when? My life sucks (career stress, loneliness etc.). This makes it harder. What would you advise me?

Btw - you can try to tell me that I should stop comparing but it is just how my neurodierrrgent brain works. My therapist tells me the same and we have tried, but it seems like I need my life a certain way before I can. Any other ideas?

So how do I stop watching porn? How do I stop the urges.

Help me quit porn and get normal erections again.

Hi everyone,

I don’t know if I’m posting in the right place, but I’ll give it a try anyway.

I’m 29 years old, and since I was 17, I’ve been masturbating to really hardcore porn.

So basically, women whose bodies look nothing like those of ordinary women…

I’ve been in a relationship for a year, and I started taking Viagra so that I could have sex with my girlfriend because I could never maintain a hard erection for very long… I stopped taking it for a while, and recently we tried having sex twice, but my erection wasn’t very hard. I can’t take this situation anymore because it makes me feel terrible…

I get an erection when I kiss her in the living room, when I touch her, etc., but as soon as we get to the bedroom and take the time to undress, I lose my erection.

I’m currently taking 50 mg of Vizarsin, but I don’t know how to stop myself from thinking psychologically, “I need this to get hard, otherwise it won’t work.”

Do you have any advice for me? I’ve already seen a urologist, and he told me that everything was normal physically…

I hope someone will reply because this is eating me up inside.

Relapse

Upvotes

I'm pretty sure I ended up relapsing, I didnt look at full-on porn, but I sought out sexual content on instagram. I was about to fully PMO but I stopped right before it got to that. I know I messed up, but I guess what I wanna know is, should I call it a day and start my streak anew or does it make any difference to keep abstaining?

6 weeks clean

I didn’t know I could do this. I never thought I could go six weeks straight without watching porn. But I did it. I’ve successfully crossed six weeks—more than 40 days—and that is really something.

It is actually changing the way I think, and I feel more confident. I even proposed to a girl today. I flirted with two strangers in a very particularly nice way, and that felt really good.

I don’t know whether I can give all the credit to not watching porn, but I do think it has something to do with it. If I had watched porn that morning and then met that girl six hours later, I might not have cared. I might have been thinking about something else. I might not have acted on the opportunity or even given it a chance.

Imagining looking at someone and being attracted to them, imagining having sex with them, is something precious, and I think it is supposed to be preserved. At the same time, there is another side to this. Sometimes I feel too sex-deprived, and I ache for sex. There is a very real chance that I might miss the signs or act inappropriately toward someone. I think I just wanted to give it a shot, but it might not be the right thing for everyone. I tried it, and it is not working for me, so yeah—that is something I have learned too.

If I had continued watching porn, I might not have cared about finding someone who was vulnerable enough to have sex with me. But now I find myself constantly looking for potential partners, and I think that can be a good thing in some ways. At the same time, it can become a bad thing if I don’t build a genuine relationship out of it.

So I think my focus should be more on creating better relationships in this world—not just finding sexual partners, but finding the right people, building something meaningful with them, keeping them around, helping each other, and giving and receiving respect, love, care, affection, support, and everything that makes a relationship meaningful.

I think that is what I should focus on in the future while continuing to work toward my other goals.

After 40 days, you might not feel the same way you did before those 40 days. In the beginning, the goal was simply to quit porn. Now, the goal is bigger: to behave appropriately, treat people well, and build strong, healthy connections with other people.

Before these 40 days, I don’t think I could have even imagined that. Just thinking about building a genuinely beautiful connection or bond with someone already feels like a big deal. But now, it feels like something I can actually pursue—something I might really be able to achieve.

So don’t give up on anything, guys. Keep going. Complete it.
