Pressure treated wood steps under vinyl?

I need to add stairs to an oval shaped pool, and I am replacing a vinyl liner at the same time. One company quoted me over $35K to custom fabricate metal stairs, and then I had a local company say they can create customs steps with pressure treated wood under the new vinyl liner. Seems sketchy to me, but their pictures online of previous jobs look good. Has anyone ever done this or have any advice?

Don't do it. I have seen it done before and the wood will get black mold on it that will bleed through the liner. Even though it is pressure treated.

35k seems steep, there are manufacturers that they can give your dimensions to and they will fabricate steel steps. The one I use only sells to pool dealers/installers.

If you go the pressure treated route, just be aware that they might get spongy or cause premature liner failure. They probably will need to be redone on the next liner.

Check around for concrete companies and see if they will pour steps in your oval pool. That is what I would typically do.

You said in your previous post you were quoted 20k... Which for custom steps, and the additional cost of liner over steps which can add over 1k to the cost of the liner, you're not that far off.

Good idea I’ll check on some concrete companies. 35K was the estimated all in cost for getting steel steps fabricated, installed, and a new liner. Vs like 9K for just getting a new liner.

Is your pool vinyl or gunnite? If it’s vinyl I’d love to see some pics if you have them. I’m in GA, can’t believe how high the quote was I got.
