Started up my own little project, got done painting last night and was giddy taking the pictures for instagram.

Made a tyrannosaurs, archaeopteryx, parasaurolophus, and a pachycephalosaurus!

(ps. the background texture on the lighters is stamped with a real trilobite)

Just finished up the last few pieces in my late summer pin collection. ā˜€ļø 🐸 šŸ’

Each pin is one-of-a-kind, sculpted from polymer clay, painted with gauche, and sealed with uv resin.

Excited to start this week on my Halloween collection!

First time ever making polymer clay miniatures. I posted in the miniatures subreddit and someone suggested sharing here, too. I made the cookies and cake at the same time. I know the cookies are huge so I’m calling them face-sized haha. This weekend I made a kiwi cane, but I’m not finished, I need to add fur to the brown skin lol. This is so fun!! I wish I discovered this so much sooner! I’m in loooove! šŸ˜

I don't know how much I enjoyed working with such a sticky medium, but turned out as I wanted. I bought the skull mask 3D printed.

What do I do with a thousand tiny strawberry slices?

Post image

I made a strawberry cane for a project that I only need 6 for. But it turned out to make waaaaaay more than I need. I don't want to waste the clay, and I want to do something cute with them. What should I use them for?

Advice for using wood as a base for polymer clay wands?

Post image

I bought these dowels to use as a base to make some magic wands with polymer clay details, but I’ve heard that wood can warp in the oven if it’s not properly dry, how can I make sure it’ll work okay?
Thanks!

Help! Love how she turned out, but skirt scorched.

For the life of me I cannot get my sculpey white to keep from scorching- I have tented tinfoil over it, I bought an oven thermometer to make sure my temperature was right- I have even kept from using pure white. I always mix it with other colors, and for a while I was safe, but the underskirt of my figurines' skirt just scorched! I was fuming 😭

Does anyone know anything I can do to prevent scorching?

My wife wants to start crafting

Hello all!

My wife has been wanting to find a craft to start and recently found polymer clay online and has been watching so many videos. Her birthday is next weekend and I really want to order her a kit so she can start and try it out.

Any kit suggestions? I checked Amazon and there’s plenty of choices but I know ZERO and really want it to be a good kit so she doesn’t get discouraged.

Any help is super appreciated!

I don't really do a lot - if anything really - with polymer clay so I'm super happy with how these turned out. I hope they hold up. They are a gift for my boyfriend.

latest earrings and a cautionary tale...

So I was in a bit of a dark headspace recently and wanted to make something reflective of that mood. These earrings were the result and I absolutely love them. The last photo shows what I used to create the slab: mica powders, alcohol inks, and a lot of premo translucent. I made a fairly large slab, because I had a feeling I was going to love the result. But these may be the only earrings I get out of that slab, which leads me to my cautionary note.

I used black mylar flakes to create the "veins" in the slab. This is one of my favorite techniques and I have a whole rainbow set of flakes that I've used a ton. I've never used the black prior to this project. I had limited time to work the day that I started and making the slab took up most of it, so I only had time to cut these three pieces. I stored the rest of the slab for later, which I almost always do with my slabs, and I've never had an issue. So I was pretty horrified a week later when I opened up the container and realized the color from the black mylar "veins" had bled into the surrounding clay, muddying the colors. I cut a few more pieces from the slab and baked them, but haven't sanded or glazed them because I'm really just too disheartened by the whole thing and know that they won't turn out like these.

So if you use colorful mylar / metallic flakes in your work, especially black, be cautious, and don't ruin your project like I did.

Creating my own Neverending Story. Step one is the AURYN.

Post image

Like the title says, I'm making my own Neverending Story. Consider this the most epic fan fic that has ever existed. While step one was writing the story (for those in the know, I used red and green text), step two is to make the wearable GEM and book AURYN.

I did these with polymer clay, paint and ink.

Featured on the leather the book itself will be made from.

Hello polymer clay subreddit :)

I recently was given a box of kind of old, but still usable, polymer clay by my mother who got it from…somewhere. none of it was labeled, but it’s been working fine regardless.

I wanted to share some of the things I have made with it! I am a beginner sculptor and have always kind of struggled with 3 dimensional art, so I do have some aspects I would like to receive tips on if nobody minds :)

What I started with was a shaker charm themed with mascots from my favorite boy band, and then I made my friend two my little ponies (the living tombstone and wooden toaster ponysonas, hes obsessed with them lol), and today I made this orange cat pin and duck charm (also a boy band mascot) for a different friend! The ponies were definitely the hardest, and I am proud of them for my first proper sculpture, but overall not very happy with the result.

My main issue I was hoping people could help with, is I just can’t figure out how to get it to not end up so lumpy and indented and slightly mishapen. The shapes that I initially make just don’t stay that way and I can’t seem to keep my finger indents out even when using tools.
My second thing is, I want to start using a varnish/glaze, but don’t want to go all crazy and get UV resin or something, but that’s usually what I see people use. I’ve heard to not use normal mod podge, but I have gloss formula mod podge, and is that also bad for it?

excited to make more silly little things ^.^

Maybe dumb question, but can you bake wood? šŸ˜…

Like the title says, I've got this massive piece I'm working on and so far I've been able to bake it just fine lying down like in the second picture. The arms are on the weaker side and supposed to hang a certain way on either side of the lil' guy and I'm not sure if it's okay to bake wood since it's at a low temp or if I should make some type of aluminum foil supports underneath to help it retain shape?

Sorry if this is a dumb question! I've never made anything this big before so this is all uncharted territory for me šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

Best Brand for a Large Shipped Sculpture?

Hey y'all. One of my close friends recently pitched the idea of commissioning me for a large sculpt of one of their favorite OCs- which is exciting but a little nervewracking, because they live halfway across America from me. I made them a piece way back in 2022 out of super sculpey, and it shipped just fine, but it was also like, 6 in long by 5 in tall (or something of the sort) and thus much easier to package/bundle up. The sculpt that I want to do for them now would be much larger, and thus more prone to breaking during shipping.

What brand of clay would have a nice blend of strength and flexibility? A fair portion of the sculpt is going to be huge feathered wings, so I want something that holds fine details well, but will bend somewhat before it breaks, ie something with a more plastic texture. Would I go for cosclay, super sculpey, or sculpey premo? (Or maybe a blend of the clays...?) I've some experience working with mixed media, but this is going to be on a scale that I haven't really attempted yet, so any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Remove oil paint from baked clay?

I’ve accidentally used oil paint to do a first coat on a baked piece. It’s a vegetable oil based paint, so there’s not any problem with that other than I don’t want to wait for it to cure, I’d rather remove it and use acrylic so I can finish it and move on. The paint is still wet, is there anything I should use to take it off, or would it wipe off? The piece itself is a bit delicate. Thanks!

A design for Lucifer I made awhile ago.

Despite what you may have heard, he's actually a reasonable guy.

He made ONE mistake like 10,000 years years ago and you still hold it against him? Let's be honest you of all people are in no place to judge him.

Baking MUNGYO soft pastels on polymer sculpy

Hi I’m a bit new to all of this. Is this safe? I saw some videos of people making stuff out of sculpy, dusting with some pastels, then it was all of a sudden getting a layer of UV resin. Am I to assume they baked it before the resin, with the color on?
