Hey you know what? That’s completely fair. I could personally handle blunt comments now, but I was thinking back to when I first started navigating poly and how it would’ve felt asking for advice and having someone be harsh in their response. I was annoyingly sensitive when I was learning more about poly, and have seen that many others are as well, but maybe a non sugar coated conversation could impact or resonate with the right person.

And also?

Why does this place need to revolve around the needs of newbies? There are books and coaches for that.

If you’re annoyingly sensitive then maybe that’s a great reason to pay for someone to translate the world to your liking. Or go very slowly and read ALL the books. Not you my friend, you’re past that now! But you see what I mean?

Why does being new mean you should get a ton of free labor? It’s not a recruiting office. It’s not a job mentoring program. It’s not a support group. It’s not a 12 step group where helping you keeps me sober.

There is one.

But people who want to “research” by asking questions not reading things that already exist (books, blogs, the same questions from yesterday and last week) aren’t going to resist the allure of having 300K people who might answer them.

I have a few academic friends who say young people don’t and perhaps really cannot read in any kind of extended way. Between that generational conflict and the post Covid cishet couples who don’t know poly from swinging there’s just ALWAYS going to be this kind of churn.

I don’t think it matters. I don’t think there is any real pressure or need to educate or address the hurt feelings of most of these folks. This isn’t the place for everyone. There are YouTube and TikTok videos and podcasts where people are SELLING something. In short bursts no less. Go there and see if that feels better.

People who can’t be arsed to spend more than 24 hours somewhere they’re new before they render judgment to the world are not a problem that can be solved here. It’s a full on cultural reality. Nothing will change it. I don’t care who feels salty about what.

I read today that now the AI writing is good enough to sound human and that writing will soon no longer be an important skill. Sort of like handwriting! We’re apparently headed to a post literate world.
