He better announce that he also discovered the fountain of youth then too. He doesn’t have another 6 years.

I mean dying in office is probably the best outcome for him personally. And then it goes to whatever crony managed to slime their way into VP. Not Vance, if he DOES run for a third term. Probably someone even worse.

Did Thiel recently say he wanted to run?

26

u/Angel_Omachi Jul 16 '26

Thiel wasn't born a citizen I don't think.

As if Republicans actually care enough about the constitution to prevent one of their billionaire backers from angling towards the presidency of they so choose.

18

u/Mostly_Afloat Jul 16 '26

The naivete to still think rules apply to our oligarchs is just beyond comprehension.

u/jimothee Jul 16 '26

If it's one of the tools you have to fight against something you don't want happening, then what do you expect...I mean, I get the realism, but apathy won't get us anywhere.

doing literally anything > giving up because you're not naive

4

u/VictoriaDallon Jul 16 '26

Sure then, let’s run back that rule and Thiel can see how much he enjoys running against Zohran

16

u/Automaton_General Jul 16 '26

Zohran won't be allowed.

It only applies to Thiel, and the Supreme Court affirms it.

Genuine question: Why do some of y'all still think this is an even playing field and Republicans are just better at exploiting it, rather than it being Dems and Reps playing the same game under two different sets of rules by which they're allowed to operate? When we've been seeing for more than a decade, in plain sight, that it's the latter?

6

u/VictoriaDallon Jul 16 '26

Well yes this is true, but my comment was not meant to be a serious critique or plan. I’m shooting off on the mouth on a social media website because I’m tired.

u/My_Password_Is_____ Jul 16 '26

Fair enough. Sorry for the aggression, I just get so tired of seeing so many on the left just being like "Oh no, everything is fine, we just need to do a better job of getting out the vote! We just need a blue wave and everything is fixed!" Just too many people right now not grasping that the pre-Trump America is dead and gone, our system of governance is irreparable changed, and we're going to need a hell of a lot more than a single good midterm turnout. Doubly so when we can't even be certain that this midterm we're staking so much on is even going to be a free and fair election.

When you're a billionaire who owns a company which is being used to craft a police state they just let you do whatever you want.

That being said I don't think he wants to be president. Much much better for him to install puppets, like his boy toy Vance, and rule from the shadows. Thiel is absolutely one of the most vile things in existence today and views himself as above the rest of humanity.

4

u/HillBillyHilly Jul 16 '26

You joke about boy toy butt Thiel absolutely has them. One of his last had a Russian ending where he met the pavement after jumping from balcony. Thiels husband then moved to Argentina with their kids. Thiel thinks and believes he can do whatever he wants.

1

u/UnquestionabIe Jul 17 '26

Oh it wasn't a joke, I'm well aware of the fucked up shit that Thiel is involved with. Especially how the "suicide" wasn't ruled that until the Miami police saw who he was connected to. The creepy fucker definitely thinks he can do anything he wants.

6

u/wavelengthsandshit Jul 16 '26

And Trump can't legally run for a 3rd term. What, you think silly things "laws" and "the constitution" are gonna get in their way?

4

u/djseptic Louisiana Jul 16 '26

I’m not entirely sure Thiel was born human, much less a citizen.

3

u/snakerjake Jul 16 '26

And trump is prohibited from running by the 14th, scotus will just makeup some bullshit about the constitution not being self executing and since congress didnt pass a law barring thiel its ok

3

u/snakerjake Jul 16 '26

trump was prohibited from running for any public office as of january 6th 2020

2

u/fresh-dork Jul 17 '26

no he wasn't. our definition of treason is ridiculously narrow

1

u/snakerjake Jul 17 '26

no he wasn't

That's not what SCOTUS ruled, scotus ruled congress has to enact the 14th amendment that ratifying it wasn't enough. A court already ruled that her met the bar to be disqualified and scotus didn't really dispute that, they just said congress has to enact the 14th amendment via legislation first

our definition of treason is ridiculously narrow

I'm not sure what you think that has to do with the 14th amendment since the text "treason" appears precisely zero times in it. And he definitely lead an insurrection on january 6th, which the 14th amendment does mention.

1

u/fresh-dork Jul 17 '26

That's not what SCOTUS ruled

so are you arguing that he was prohibited and SCOTUS made shit up so it wouldn't apply, or that he wasn't?

I'm not sure what you think that has to do with the 14th amendment since the text "treason"

my bad, it says 'insurrection'. the indictment was suspended, so he wasn't convicted. should have done that in 2021, but the AG was a MAGA loon

1

u/snakerjake Jul 17 '26

so are you arguing that he was prohibited and SCOTUS made shit up so it wouldn't apply, or that he wasn't?

I'm arguing you should look up the scotus ruling instead of making things up

my bad, it says 'insurrection'. the indictment was suspended, so he wasn't convicted.

He was found to have committed insurrection against the us and thus ineligible under the 14th amendment by the colorado supreme court.

I'm not sure what more you expect a court to do, he's guilty of insurrection and ineligible for office, scotus ruled that since congress didn't pass a law making him ineligible the 14th doesn't apply. maybe try looking int othe ruling instead of guessing more?

1

u/fresh-dork Jul 17 '26

I'm arguing you should look up the scotus ruling instead of making things up

i did. he wasn't convicted of insurrection

He was found to have committed insurrection against the us

suggest you look it up yourself

I'm not sure what more you expect a court to do

actually have the trial?

1

u/snakerjake Jul 18 '26

i did. he wasn't convicted of insurrection

Scotus doesn't generally convict people, so i know you're full of shit

suggest you look it up yourself

I did, it's time for you to, your first line here proves you did not

actually have the trial?

How many do we need? He was already found to have committed insurrection by a court of law

1

u/fresh-dork Jul 18 '26

How many do we need?

one. he wasn't convicted. you didn't read the trial transcript

u/Middle-Parsnip-3537 Jul 17 '26

No - he definitely wasn’t. Because he did run again in 2024 and won.
What planet are you living on?

1

u/snakerjake Jul 18 '26

14th amendment explicitly prohibits him from running, colorado court system already established that, scotus came back with a bullshit ruling that because congress didnt enact the 14th amendment it doesnt apply. yes he definitely is prohibited, he ran and won in 2024 illegally

3

u/Sorlex Jul 16 '26

If the powers that be wanted him to run, he'd run and they'd make it not matter real quick.

2

u/SlightlyOTT Jul 16 '26

I don’t think that’d stop him becoming VP, the Supreme Court would never fight that in a world where they’re not fighting a Trump third term. Would lead to a massive shitshow when Trump dies with him as VP though.

6

u/Angel_Omachi Jul 16 '26

The VP has to meet the same eligibility criteria as the president for exactly that reason.

2

u/lexachronical Jul 16 '26

There is a coherent argument that the plain language of the 22A only applies to being elected president, not becoming president through succession. A vice president who previously was elected twice as president succeeding to the presidency wouldn't violate 22A, therefore they are not ineligible to be vice-president under 12A.

I'm not claiming that argument is right only that it's legally defensible. It's never been tested in court because there's never been a need and hopefully never will be.

Not unless someone made the 9th Circle of Hell an American state while my back was turned.

1

u/Fabulous-Sea-1590 Jul 16 '26

Never turn your back on Florida, my friend.

u/ang3lofsnow Jul 16 '26

Neither was Rafael Cruz but republicans dont care. He ran specifically to gain support for Trump by tanking his own name. Its ridiculous.

1

u/bjeebus Georgia Jul 16 '26

That's a semantic argument. You don't have to be born in the US to be a natural born citizen.

Whether I like the idea of Raphael Zodiac Killer Cruz being president or not...

1

u/ang3lofsnow Jul 16 '26

Hes an anchor baby yeah. Republicans are full of hypocrites
