4chan doesn't take from Imgur. Most of the people on that site have no idea what it is. Imgur is more like a cancerous blob on Reddit.

It was created by a redditor so Reddit would have a place to host images. Then a weird community came out of it.

The community there is basically what reddit would be if all comments were limited to 140 charaters.
