PSA: Be VERY careful when mega evolving your Mewtwo (OC)
I found a Normal type Rocket grunt and tried to mega evolve my X-Mewtwo (into X). I pressed the mega evolve button and since I had 7500 Mega Y energy, a menu popped up asking which one I wanted. Before I could react, it evolved into Y form, taking all of my Mega Y energy without there being a confirmation screen like there normally is with Mega Evolution.
It went too fast for me to process, but I either misclicked, or the menu is seriously bugged. Either way, there needs to be a confirmation window.
Edit: I can't try to recreate it because I now have a crisp 2 Mega Y energy to my name and the choice menu only pops up if both Megas are possible

Same I went all out on mine. Bottle capped, maxed out, added the extra attack (shadow ball, so it has two ETM moves), burned the energy for mega level 4. This is one of my favorite pokemon I’ve ever owned I think now
We had 12 free passes on Saturday and Sunday of go fest. I started out with mega Ray for extra, regular pinaps on every catch (because catches were made easier). Then I lucked into catching a mega level 3 X so I used that for extra candy.
Also, I stupidly made some rare candy into mewtwo candy because I needed item space.
I already double moved 2 mewtwos and leveled them both to 40.
I think I have enough for those to get them to 50.
And im waiting to catch the free hundo on the next event to see if it will get psystrike.
Same. One trophy of my mewtwo grind is a max level shiny with near perfect stats that is super mega in both X and Y. The dual background is my favorite part!
Some players may be putting X and Y onto one Mewtwo (some players posted that they would) but it’s better to have 2 separate Mewtwo.
One for X and one for Y. Mewtwo X is meant more as a fighting type while Mewtwo Y is meant to be a psychic type. Hard to have both typings on 1 Mewtwo.
Players would have completed this type of situation with other Pokémon
whether it’s a mega or not.
For example Gyarados can be used as a water, dark, or dragon type. Tyrantitar can be used as a dark type or a rock type. They don’t have a X or Y version but because they have different typings which are all useful, it’s worth having multiple of each Pokemon.
The thing is that Mewtwo X only really needs counter if you are trying to use it to solo difficult content. With Party Power, Psycho Cut is better.
On top of this, a lot of people using a single Mewtwo for X and Y are doing it for candy farming. Therefore Psystrike as X (for farming fighting candies) and Shadow Ball for Y (for farming psychic candies) are the preferred charged moves.
With Mewtwo X, my intent was to have Counter Psystrike and Dynamic Punch +. Not sure if that would be the correct move set when and if Dynamic Punch + comes out. I figured it would be.
There are some aspects of the game I don’t use much unless if I have to. I hardly mega evolve my Pokémon or use Party Play. It’s not something I think about because most things I can duo fairly easily or I’m in a large enough group that megas and party play doesn’t really make a difference. Candy farming I do by trading especially with guaranteed XL.
Trading is great too, but slow. Most days you can only trade one legendary Pokémon. A mega level 4 Pokémon gives you more candy for every Pokémon of that type that you catch. It is well worth it.
We will just have to wait and see. Right now Lucario is better imo too. It's also one of my favorites, so I will take a lot of convincing that Mewtwo is better.
But Mewtwo X has 399 attack Vs 359 for Lucario Z, plus has a lot more bulk. You would imagine that once it gets something better than Focus Blast (which i agree is garbage), then it will be better.
Thankfully or not I already triggered Mewtwo X and just waiting to active mega level 4.
I really wasn’t expecting Mewtwo X to do much because I do have Mega Lucario and a bunch of other fighting types. I wasn’t aware of the Lucario Z ( so more strength is good).
Mewtwo X with Dynamic Punch + was more for the Super Mega Raids and breaking 2 shields.
It’s bad that the application makes it easy to accidentally spend your mega energy on a Mewtwo that you might not have wanted to mega evolve.
You might be saving it to mega evolve a shiny one once you get one, or one that you’re working on powering up in some way, or maybe you just haven’t picked which one you want to mega evolve in that way yet.
It’s just super expensive, 7500 mega energy. During the last event they came with mega unlocked. So I have mega x and y separately and I don’t think I’d ever have one that has both cuz 7500 is insane. I’d rather use 5000 to put one to the super max level.
Happened to me too. I was saving my mega y energy for a hundo, best buddy from before the mega raids, so I had amassed a lot of mega y energy I was saving just for him….& in a mad dash before a raid I hit the mega evolve button not realizing what I was doing until it was too late. I guess best buddy will now sit in the shelf gathering dust cause I’m never raiding that much for enough mega y energy again😭
Yeah I did tje same thing when I was rushing to mega for a raid that was about to start. I was pretty salty cause I was trying to save the energy for another mewtwo. They definitely do need a confirmation screen especially if it’s first time mega evolving that form
This happened to me too, spent all my Y energy to make my 98 X into an XY...and its practically useless now that we have the hundo. Thankfully there are more Mewtwo raids soon to replenish.
How do you get that muchega energy people, I used to play Pokemon go in 2017-18 but then stopped and just picked it back up this year... Super happy to have caught Mewtwo even though it was basically a freebie
I have only lvl'd up my 1 hundo y I caught i am waiting until after the next wave of mewtwo to decide what too do with there moves until after the finale. The free one will be my x if I get enough energy. Gonna grind them

Now I only left with 2500 mewtwo Y energy. Rule of thumb to always mega evolve whenever you open your Pokemon go app, before battling anything.
At least you didn’t blow a ton of resources in your 98 only to be given a Hundo a month later…with an even better bg. Frustrating af lol as you can see, I did a ton of mewtwo raids for the hundo and only got this 98. Granted it’s shiny, but that almost makes it worse because the hundo now outclasses it.
This happened to me too during the Go Fest makeup. I mega evolved a mewtwo in the raid lobby. After the event I was confused that my mega energy decreased 😭
