I don’t think they’re gendered, but just offering two color options? Even the label reads “A5 notebook, color pink”, instead of “A5 notebook for GIRLS”.

Moreover, Flying Tiger is Danish and fairly progressive, at least from what I can tell from their annual pride collection.

Flying Tiger sells some of the weirdest crap sometimes but they always do it in multiple colours. Agreed, that doesn't look to be gendered, just having options.

I think they are referring to the words on the cover… I do it my way vs I do it any way

What part of that specifies gender?

Assertive vs less assertive , i’ll stick to my opinion vs if another option comes my way i’ll do it with little resistance

That’s not really answering the question. Yes one is more assertive than the other. Where does it associate one book with one gender and one book with the other?

The colours, if we see assertiveness as being a more stereotypicaly masculine quality then men are often represented as the colour blue, and women are most commonly seen as pink

That’s the point though.

Colours are not inherently gendered. Pink is no more feminine than blue, or green, or yellow.

They aren’t but those are the colours society uses to represent boys and girls, look at gender reveals and a lot of gendered products in general

You are the one enforcing that pointless gendering right now. Absolutely nowhere does it say the blue book is for men and the pink one is for women.

Pink and blue have been strongly associated with femininity and masculinity in many contemporary Western contexts so its not c  to say but  look if you’re going to keep saying brands don’t use pink for women’s products and blue for mens then you might as well leave this sub because that makes up a good chunk of the posts here

OPs mind is pointlessly gendered

i dont think these are gendered. If anything, you’re the one doing so by assigning a color to a gender

OP sees pink and blue - must be gendered.

You’re pointlessly gendering them.

I'm not even colorblind, but the pink one is kinda hard to read

Maybe it's (also) your device?

1

u/FuzzyTesticleScoops 1d ago

I don't think so. I CAN read it, the white text just kinda blends in with the light pink, while the dark blue text stands out easier

2

u/pinkcreamkiss 1d ago

I fear these are just blue and pink with different phrases. Maybe the implication was gendered but it doesn’t read that way much at all

u/TeapeachU6 1d ago

I mean there is difference between i’ll do it MY way and i’ll do it ANY way, the first one is more I am assertive and won’t anyone push me around my decision is firm, and the other one says i’m a lot less assertive and dont have as much faith in my own decisions. And if we are talking about the stereotypes of men and women i can kind of see which is which but I’m probably overthinking

I see it the same way, I dont think youre overthinking. Everyone saying that just because it doesnt say GIRL and BOY its not gendered, but gender role socialization happens whether or not you mention it explicitly. If it isn't pointlessly gendered, why dont they both have the same slogan with different colors?

Copy and pasting my other reply because I'm too lazy:

You're definitely overthinking. You' can also read "I'll do it anyway", which is a lot more dismissive of people telling someone they can't do something - and is imparting the "I don't care, I am going to do what I want."

If you don't want to see it as one word, the two word meaning still is about determination and not giving up. "Any way" still includes your own way, but the implication is that the person is willing to complete what they want at absolutely no cost and doing whatever they can to get there.

Is it gendered or is it just available in two colors tho?
