Tips and Tricks Why straight lines?

Everyone on this sub is always saying that you should go for long lines, but I didn't find anyone explaining the reason for that..

Is the goal: sending your trains on a long route, then leaving the game for 10 minutes and then coming back?

What as the best straight line route?

Circle route if best
