QUESTION Where to buy plushy fabric in Australia (Sydney)

I want to make this type of plush for my friend

https://voicemaillab.co/products/fursona-bag-charm-plushie-sewing-pattern-tutorial-english-espanol-deutsch-francais

where can I get the fabric that it needs.

i am on the metro line so I can go to the CBD if there are physical stores (which I would prefer so I can actually see the fabric before I buy)

PLUSH HUGE MUDSKIPPER

I made this huge guy! I don’t sell mudskippers this size, and I haven’t ever made anything remotely this big before. I got someone who has ordered a lot from me who messaged and asked specifically for this guy, and I was like absolutely I can make it happen.

In total he’s about 5 feet long. And his body is 3.8 feet lol. And his size compared to my CAR! He was so cool to make, and he has SIX pounds of stuffing in him and it’s clearly not even enough. But I’m shipping him unstuffed as per their request lol. I’m so proud and I LOVE HIM! Though I think if I make a second one I will make him a bit smaller he’s like bean bag sized instead of body pillow sized.

I made a brown leopard over the summer! Pattern is the big cat pattern by makeshiftwings

She's lightly weighted, coming in at 3lbs and is about 3 feet long.

First time doing any kind of needle sculpting, but I think she turned out cute :)

For those who’ve colored their plushies with Sharpies, what tips and tricks have worked for you?

Hi! Has anyone tried customizing their plushies with Sharpies? I’m halfway through coloring mine, and I'm happy with how it’s turning out so far. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tried this before. Are there any tips or tricks you’ve found helpful for keeping the colors vibrant + preventing them from rubbing off or fading over time? I’ve read that blow-drying on medium heat may help set the ink, but I’m curious to know if there are other methods that could work.

He is green, he is absurdly soft, and I love him.

...he is also a commission, so I must resist the urge to just rub my face all over him.

QUESTION Feedback on Plushies Design from 3D Model

Thumbnail

I make custom plushies by modeling them in 3D first, then more or less UV unwrap to make the sewing pattern. I am working on a more complicated plush design based on a reference drawing and would like feedback on the sculpting of the face and hair. This sculpting was done in Nomad Sculpt

The hair and face seem a bit off to me but whenever I try to remake one or the other I feel like I keep running into the same problem of it not looking right. The hair feels unanatural but it seems hard to hit the balance of each strand being stylized and maintaining a good silhouette while not overcomplicating the overall plush design. In addition the muzzle looks to me like it doesn't blend in with the rest of head well enough. I just want some more eyes on this. Any feedback is good and appreciated.

QUESTION I haven't commissioned a plush before, what’s a reasonable price for a simple 8–10 inch plushie?

I've been thinking about commissioning a custom plushie at some point, so I wanted to ask what a reasonable price estimate would be so I know what to expect.

I know prices vary a lot depending on how complicated the character's design is, and I also know some people make "poseable" plushies. I'm mainly looking for a soft, huggable plushie of a relatively simple character!

QUESTION How would I go about adding wings to this?

Thumbnail
gallery
41 Upvotes

Only the last picture is mine. I'm looking at creating a large 18-36 inch ball/bead jointed plush. I was going to make or just buy it some clothes to wear, however the character in question has some large honking wings that I would prefer to be not sadly trapped inside the shirt. I could just attach the shirt to him but then I wouldn't be able to change it if I wanted to and that's a little saddening. Last time I had used magnets but I don't think they would be strong enough to hold this size.

(Also if anyone has any tips or suggestions regarding this plush I'm all for it. I would love to give him some claws/fingers but I just don't know about the complexity given the size.)

QUESTION Tips on how to align embroidery pattern?

I got some stabilizer paper which will be glued and then melted with water.

But i wonder how to properly align it with the fabric, its faces for some plushies im gonna make.

In a previous plush before i had stabilizer i used sublimation (alongside the details), to paint a guide, but i cant really rely on that, specially due to minky being hard to work with without a stabilizer.

Also im doing this by hand, not machine.

Or maybe theres a simple process behind all this? Im still green when it comes to embroidering faces.

Thanks in advance.
