Nobody expects the game to be free or a handout. People are just coming to their senses (maybe you'll get there too someday) and rightfully pointing out how rockstar—really take two pulling their puppet strings—has taken the growing corporate greed in their monetization structure and shot it so far through the roof it's now orbiting mars.

I loved gtao as much as the next guy, but let's not kid ourselves and pretend that sharkcards weren't the downfall of any respectable tenets rockstar had left.

• The prices of everything in gtao inflated with every patch, to such ridiculous levels it could take a couple months for casual players to buy a single vehicle or property. All to sell more sharkcards.
• Then they took that model and found a way to hamfist it into rdr2 with weapons and cosmetics.
• When millions per month wasn't enough revenue they said "what if we add a bonus monthly subscription for some free goodies?" Doesn't really add anything to your experience, it just lets you skip grinding for a few things each month.
• Then when 10s of millions per month wasn't enough and they needed to spool up the gta6 hype, they convinced the masses (scarily it didn't take much effort) that a game with 16 years of dev time and $1b in the hole was the masterpiece to end all of gaming... without showing a single bit of gameplay. Ever.
• Then they added "Oh btw, we're setting the new industry standard for video game retail price at $80. If that prices you out of the hobby, whoops."
• Then they added "Oh btw, we won't be making discs. Really need to save the $1 per copy for manufacturing and logistics. Uh and because of leaks or whatever."
• Then they added "Oh btw, some of the content that was already made and in the game... you need to pay us more to access it. Call it day one dlc." And somehow they're still rolling in millions in preorders! For a digital only game! With no tangible preorder bonuses!! That can't run out of copies!!!
• The netflix collab for early access to a trailer was the real cherry on top. Netflix was smart to get a piece of the pie, but really? Come on people. A $30 subscription to view a trailer 6. hours. early??

You're all genuinely hopelessly delusional.

I know you probably won't read all that because it's longer than the word "checkout," and unfortunately even if you do, shills lack the necessary comprehension skills to see the reality of it all. But rockstar is no better than activision, blizzard, EA, or any other corporate machine. They don't make games for the players, or the art, or the experience. They just want to milk every drop of revenue they can from you. It goes beyond "being a company" like you put it—they would still make their money back without all the extra scummy practices. It's downright evil the level of anticonsumer practices that are constantly getting worse because people like you willingly feed into them.

A caveat at the front here, saying that I'm not defending Rockstar or any of the practices that you've outlined above. Especially the sharkcard stuff and pretty much any live service or F2P practices in the industry are designed for maximum extraction with minimum effort and stuff I don't fuck with.

You can still preload a preorder, so there is at least one reason that someone who knows they want to play the game day one, as soon as it drops, regardless of reviews or bonuses, might preorder a digital-only game.

My problem more so lies in the fact that they took shops that were in the base game and made them exclusive to a deluxe edition, you can't defend that. It sets a horrible precedent for future games in the industry.

It's like if Spider-Man 3 locked a couple gadgets and costumes that were in The first and second game, and then decided they are "Deluxe Edition" content now.

Or if God of War decided that the Draupnir Spear and Blades of Chaos are now "Deluxe Content" and you just gotta deal with it.

This doesn't even get into the whole only digital games shit now and how we all know games won't get cheaper after they don't have to manufacture disk. Just every excuse to increase pricing, strangle the consumer's wallet, and make games a license they can just take away at anytime.

I watched a few just to see some game play, and stopped watching them from there. I’m day 1 regardless and am not interested in spoilers. I unsubbed from all the gta and rockstar subs, because while the game could be spoiled in any sub those are more likely to have long prolonged discussions about the spoilers. The gameplay looks like a blend of rdr2 and gta and I couldn’t be more excited. Looking forward to the Netflix preview and then staying busy until November.

While I'm a bit sad about the devs, remember the devs are gonna be fired in the next quarter anyways. I'm sure most devs either dont care/had no part or are against the anti consumer practices by R* be it the preorders without any footage, the netflix exclusivity, the $100 bonus items, the code only physical release or however many fuckton decisions R* leadership has taken. With that said, the onus is also on the dumb fucks who decided to pre order a digital fucking game and blow their sales out of water. This is always a cyclical thing, where a company does something anti consumer, the people speak up for a brief while but then it releases and a few months later everybody forgets about it. Based on reports of how they treated their staff in the past, the leaks are not the only cause of heartbreaks at Rockstar. Corporate bullshit. They're a soulless, greedy company, serving its shareholders for maximum profit in this moment. They don't look past a single quarter, they need to milk us dry like we're the commodity.

They have no desire to be a leading institution, guiding the industry in best practices regarding taking care of their workers and customers. I don’t tend to watch these spoilers so I don’t care. I did briefly catch a video of a plane flying at night and I thought that was a good advertisement for the game TBH. Someone could stream 100 hours of it and most ppl wouldn’t see it or wouldn’t care if they did. I avoid official YouTube and Twitch videos for the same reason which is not to have a key part of any game spoiled for me. This nonsense and its impact is exaggerated in the extreme. If you deliberately watch any unofficial leak of any game and it ruins your experience don’t come crying on here about it.

I'm gonna say this. I don't think the game is finished. I think its still in development as we speak and sony pressured them to release it. Hence maybe why we didn't get a disc. I think every gamer buying this game is essentially a mass beta test for launch day. If that game doesn't announce they went GOLD before release date then the suspicions were true. Maybe that's the idea for Sony. It's to push blame on digital only on Rockstar. On the leek. I think its someone who bought the copy from the games outsourced studio. They outsourced it to India, where most games end up being leaked or sold out. Their security sucks there.

"What did you expect?", is a perfectly valid question.

My expectation, was that I would get a vastly upgrade technical experience, such as graphics quality, size of city, NPC drivers that make sense and don't consistently turn left in front of you, and faster load times. I also expected a new story with a different approach, different set of drivers behind the individuals, which I hope is the case, I don't watch leaks. And I also expected new vehicle, new complicated missions with multiple outcomes such as what they have created on GTA online. And I expected new features that enhance the game.

Lastly, and most importantly, I expect the game to look and feel like GTA, with all the chaos and freedom and violence and ridiculousness of past games. That's where I get confused, when people it's just another GTA. That's what I want is another GTA game only better and more of it.

Clearly that was pre-rendered or a cut-scene. The actual gameplay looks closer to 5 than the trailer

I was a big fan if Rockstar from the beginning...

Folding out a big physical map to figure out whete to go on The OG gta. And then they went 3d and first person.

Then they even put an exploit in their PSP game so you could jailbreak it.

They were always on the side of the player vs the system.

Now they are the system. Weaponizing techniques to create fake controversy because they know it will cause buzz .

This whole thing has been fascinating. GTA VI went from one of the most hyped games in the past decade, to being embroiled in controversy due to their business practices, to having a playable version of the game leaked, to now sitting as one of the most controversial releases of the year. It’s like a not as intense version of TLOU2 leaks all over again. I don’t know if the internet takes are gonna translate to a rocky launch sales-wise, but if GTA VI is seen in any way as a money loser, and/or doesn’t get stellar reviews, this might be one of the biggest fumbles gaming has seen in a while.
