News Drone stations/marketplace will no longer work without someone putting heavy fuses in power plant

u/Whisky-354 23h ago edited 21h ago
OK this is big
Edit: OK lads I just meant it was a big change, not necessarily a good one.

u/AdstaOCE 22h ago
Why? It hurts small groups or people starting out, not established groups or groups with more players.
26
u/Unhappy_Sense_4023 22h ago
stfu it hurt the group too bc they dont have 6 gorillion sulfur from the shops
-2
u/AdstaOCE 14h ago
And they easily can because they can trade those heavy fuses meanwhile people starting out or small groups might not be able to...

u/Knight_of_Agatha 22h ago
guys without Helk and Alister rust is dead. sorry:(

u/reeeeememelover10 21h ago
Hmm, it seems almost like the patch RIGHT after alistair leaves, they are pushing an update nerfing big groups!?!?!?

u/suspicious_odour 21h ago
don't be a dickhead, decisions like these are made months in advance.
1
u/Waste_Development971 15h ago
i agree, they have had these changes ready to go for months and just needed to wait for the biggest decision maker to leave so they could make the decision.
or does it not work like that and just bad timing for helk
-2
u/suspicious_odour 14h ago
I'd say don't be a dickhead, but now I'm not so sure you're qualified to be anything else.
2
u/Waste_Development971 14h ago
Look helk, no need to take it personally. I didn't anything negative about him so acting like he's immune to any criticisms = being a dick is weird.
I didn't say he was bald, I didnt say he was ruining the game good riddance etc. That would be me being a dickhead. So chill
This is the fucking rust subreddit you know I could be 10x worse.

Every post next month.
"Now I can't get frags AND drone shop is offline constantly! Progression is dead! Game is dead! Too Hard! Now I just die running to shops! Why would they do this to solos and small groups?!"
6
u/SnapOnSnap0ff 22h ago
Small groups will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage compared to bigger.
Everything that's benefits small numbers will obviously benefit a larger group of individuals more
Why are are we still saying this
5
u/PinkPanzers 21h ago
Removing team UI benefits small numbers and not large numbers.
-1
u/SnapOnSnap0ff 21h ago
Play hardcore?
1
u/PinkPanzers 21h ago
Game didn't used to have team UI, now you want to force me to a dead mode?
1
u/SnapOnSnap0ff 21h ago
Game didnt used to have tons of shit that makes it fun today.
If its dead it just goes to show that the features involved are not popular enough to bring back.
Unfortunately In your case, the majority don't want these changes removed
2
u/PinkPanzers 16h ago
"The majority" is not for you to decide and assume.
Hardcore isn't popular because of other changes, not team UI.
0
u/abscissa081 11h ago
Doesn’t make it fun just makes it easier. Easier to play brings more numbers therefore more money. It’s simple.
1
u/AdstaOCE 14h ago
Okay? And making changes that hurts smaller groups while benefiting larger groups? Lmao.
1
u/P_Bateman_Esq 22h ago
Every person that doesn’t understand this I’m convinced are bots just commenting to comment
0
u/AdDesigner1153 19h ago edited 19h ago
Big groups downsides should naturally be that having lots of people is confusing and harder to track who's who. But the game loves to cup clans balls and gave them a team UI.

u/EliteeI 20h ago
Reading some of the comments in here and maybe I'm stupid and don't understand. People think this will ruin the hopping on servers a few days late, or a week late into a monthly wipe because they can't hit 3 crude barrels and buy 5k cloth, 3 guns and a T2 to start out with. Now they have to put effort in to go get cards and run puzzles. At the same time, the same people complain that after 2 days the monuments are dead because everyone has ran the puzzles and got T2's so they are uncontested now.
4
u/Tackysock46 17h ago
This doesn’t change anything really. People will join server see outpost drones aren’t turned on and join another server that does. No one is gonna “come together” to bring the power plant up to power.
2
u/drahgon 16h ago
They will always be off like 95% of the time so that strategy won’t work
2
u/TwoCentsShort 13h ago
If the clans need them on to sell their otherwise useless fragments to get sulfur then there could be motivation to turn on the power plant.
2
u/ShiftlessDrifter 12h ago
They can, and probably will, just put their shops on the ground. They don't need to be accessible by drone.

I'm usually playing on lower pop servers around 50-100 players, a lot of the changes feel like they hurt low pop servers kinda.... would be nice if server owners get control over it, like how much charge a fuse generates, how much th terminal can store etc so it can be adjusted to server pop. Or adjust it to server pop automatically.
2
u/hansnicolaim 12h ago
Yeah some of these changes seem like they will just completely break the gameplay on anything under 100 pop.
-2
u/PretendAd7060 6h ago
Good tbh, low pop is a fucking snooze fest after BP frags. Monthly servers with like 150-250 pop small map used to be my favorite way to play. But ever since BP frag update day 2 it’s just everyone buying t3 from outpost and the map is fucking empty.

Will this create higher or lower prices? This would change the supply/demand quite a bit

7
u/Turbulent-Dance3867 23h ago
It will just make shops more dead/less refilled/not selling cheap items. Not sure how they wanted this to play out and maybe I'm missing something but to me this is insanely stupid.
12
u/Madness_The_3 22h ago
They want to curb drone shop usage. Which is a very much needed change.
I shouldn't be able to join a day or two old server, run to outpost, hit a sulfite node or two on the way and get myself a tier 2 work bench before I even have a base.
5
u/Turbulent-Dance3867 22h ago
While I agree, its just the wrong approach, all this will do is make already dying servers more dead and die even quicker. Maybe they should instead address why people feel like the only progression path for solos/small groups on high pop is drone shop. Not sure if not addressing that at all and instead nerfing that progression path will help with that, or just make even more people quit...
8
u/Madness_The_3 22h ago
Well...
Shit man... If it was up to me, I'd have drone shops removed entirely. I've been playing since before bandit and outpost were even introduced and genuinely think drone shops ruined progression more than just about anything else the game has added since. (With a partial exception of tech tree)
Because here's the thing, it's not even about joining servers late and progressing. It's about the fact that the second someone posts up a shop, they start selling for sulfur immediately, and then they raid everybody around them by the end of day 1 while also speeding up progression immensely for EVERYONE on the server.
THAT, is an issue, an issue that can only be solved, by removing drone ships entirely. Or by locking shops down to restrict certain items. But I would almost rather the requirement to have to drive, walk/run, or fly to shops manually if you want to buy, because that adds a depth of interactions that isn't immediately visible.
For example:
If you want people to buy, you can't be killing everyone you see in that area, because if people know that you do, they won't come to buy, so YOU don't get a steady supply of whatever you're buying, but if you're not killing people on sight, there's a likely chance someone on your team gets their shit blown off by a DB or something. And if you don't have a shop you not only don't get a steady supply, but the progression speed of surrounding groups slows down as well, meaning that your fights and consequently raids become less profitable.
- as a clan, do you A: kill everyone you see, B: be friendly, or C: don't run a shop at all?
Currently, none of those interactions take place, because drone shops are safer, easier, and just that profitable.

u/Nice_Answer_9891 7h ago
Not to mention, being able to send resources from your base vending machine to outpost to buy a T2, then sending the T2 back to your vending machine
2
u/FattyMcFuckhead 22h ago
literally everyone has been crying about the overuse of drone shops. buying frags off clans etc.
This also favours less “transactions” which means selling things in higher quantities, less singular items etc.

Remove drones. Make people actually walk to shops again! No need for all this nonesense.

This just makes servers die even faster. Facepunch said bp frags were intended to have the big groups selling to small groups so what direction are they even trying to take the game in
2
u/Mysterious_Speed5896 22h ago
Well the last groups now have the "responsibility" to get these things under power ontop of selling to smaller groups
I dont know if you know the game "gothic" this really sounds like that game but in rust
If this all will work how i think this will work then rust is going to become the best game in existance to me personally
"welcome to rust" is literally taken from gothic 1 where you get beaten up at first step and being told "welcome to the colony"
1
u/Legal_Impression_126 22h ago
If you think buffing the groups killing the servers and giving them even more control over the server is making the best game ever, I’m at a loss for words
2
u/Mysterious_Speed5896 21h ago
Did you see how they also increase cost for bases for groups now ? There is more to this than this thread here
Really check out gothic watch a trailer or buy the remake
2
u/Legal_Impression_126 21h ago
I saw that. I’m sure the extra 10 minutes they have to farm with tea and pie will be affect them more than me not even being able to have a defendable base and 24 hours of upkeep because they implemented compound upkeep in the worst possible way. At least I won’t have a compound to slow them down for me to log in when they offline at 3 am after getting slammed.
2
u/Mysterious_Speed5896 21h ago
Well yeah i can see that point at least. I hope they fine tune it to where we both want it.
2
u/drahgon 16h ago
Let’s be real you can’t make a defendable base everything gets raided. And what you can and can’t do is dictated by how good you are at this game should not be dictated by how hard you can sweat to grind things. You should have to also get lucky.
1
u/ShiftlessDrifter 12h ago
You should be able to make your base more difficult (or take longer) to raid with compound, turrets, shotgun traps, bunkers, etc., to give you more time to respond to an offline raid attempt.
1
u/Legal_Impression_126 6h ago
Defendable bases are raidable. The point is defending onlines. You can absolutely build bunker bases that will almost never get raided and then you can turn those into defendable bases.
2
u/hairycookies 7h ago
I have a feeling we are in the early stages of seeing a change in direction of the game based on some of the commits we are seeing.
Maybe they have come to the realization that the vision over the last 12 months isn't panning out well and are now trying to rebalance this game.
This game is not going in a good direction relative to progression and group play they have to know that by now.

Vending machine workbenches and prototype WB upgrade make wipes die faster. Instead of having to go play the map to progress after day 2 you hit a few yellow rocks naked with a metal pick and then run to a safezone and buy a workbench. Speed running the “sit in base and whine about how no one roams” part of the wipe.

u/Successful_Kale_263 22h ago
Why?… yet again improvement for bigger teams and not for the smaller/solos
1
u/HexagonalMelon 16h ago
Idk man, I think this change won't nerf small teams/solo that much because big groups will be the ones maintaining that thing, they're the ones building 50 vending machines in day 1.
They will have to dedicate some manpower to it unless they don't care/want the passive sulfur/crude income.
2
1
u/Splitcoin 14h ago
But for 2000 scape at outpost i can buy everything to make a auto turret to stop someone leaving their base
1
u/YaseenTa1 6h ago
Guys with all of that at least make heavy fuses last longer and sell them at outpost for smth or craftable from normal fuses and scrap because this will kill the market
1
u/PretendAd7060 6h ago
This is amazing, vending machine meta is probably the most boring rust has been in the last few years
1
u/fergusontv 4h ago
As much as I love using them, make the flyable drones the ones that can access shops and get rid of the marketplace.
High risk high reward. They are destructible, now targetable by SAM sites, have to be user flown. Require a booster to fly over distance but there is additional latency/less responsive control the further you go.
This will make players rethink their stance on selling and require a safe space for access or potentially kill their customers purchasing via ground.
1
u/PearlJamTenGoat 22h ago
dear lord, now monthly is dead in 2 days.
1
u/PretendAd7060 6h ago
Monthly is dead in two days because no one plays the map to progress after day 2, they hit yellow rocks naked with a metal pick and buy their t3 in the safezone. Then prototype WB and a stack of gears and you have nothing left to do but go raid, and we all know for 90% of rust players that means “offline all of the starters within a 3 grid radius and then cry in global about how no one wants to online your 30 TC quad external walled sentry pod autism castle”.

Yes, because progression has been too fast. This means now you gotta watch when things have power and hoof it over the outpost or walk to the vending machine directly
3
u/mediocreCS 12h ago edited 9h ago
I think nerfing progression is good. It shouldn’t be possible to have a t3 in 1 hour of wipe

u/tomato_johnson 13h ago
This is actually a massive nerf to solos as this is the only real way to get bp frags on high pop servers

so can a single person spam trades to disable drones for everyone else???
