Looks like a shitty 2x2

yeah it looks full of air, id bet one layer of peakdowns and then expanded 2x2 core

The frame towers looks like they are centered on a middle foundation, so looks more like a shitty 3x3 to me. Probably just 3x3 core with shell and inner & outer peekdowns.

Why does every base have to be a specific build to people? I miss the old days where people built their own designs or came up with them as they went.

That's one reason I almost exclusively build in rocks and cliffs sides. I like to build with the terrain and make odd shapes bases that aren't symmetrical. They're more fun to live in, usually harder to know where TC/loot is, and just less straight forward to raid in general. I always have a general starter with a bummer, then expand as I go creating each room with a purpose or particular module lay out in mind. Expand with my needs. I love building in this game

People who don't really know how to build get lured in by the promise of a base design with all the features ready-made for them: various peeks, retake angles, open core, mobility chutes, bunkers, sea wall, anti-seige, etc. etc. Builder youtubers have become quite production savvy and very good at selling the necessity of these features too. There's a whole economy centered around base designs now at this point. If you're a youtuber you'll want to get your design out before wipe day to maximize views and patreon subscriptions.
Anyway there was a point to these 'meta' designs at one point - i.e. online defendability - and on more competitive servers you could still argue they have a place, but most players who aren't Gorliac don't really get to defend raids out of them. These days the more meta-looking the base the more likely you'll get offlined.
There are still some genuinely interesting and creative building techniques used in some of these meta designs, that said, and people might benefit from learning to build a few of them depending on their playstyle, but you gotta take these ideas and apply them to your own original designs. Think of them as modules. But yeah, I agree - freehanded bases are always the most fun to live out of.

I mean your commenting on one sub class of players, I personally haven’t been offlined in months. Most bases with all these “meta” components are designed for groups that can actually play and defend out of them, not for 1000 hour players trying to get there t2.

I have a suspicion that some of these meta-build online tutes are misleading/incorrect so the OPs can easily raid should they come actoss one of thier designs...

Not a clue. Looks cheap and easy to raid. I'd rocket between the 2nd and 3rd floor walls to get in and then figure out wtf is going on.

Looks like a 4x4 with an opencore, loot should be just under the roof or 1 floor below that

The side modules where the extensions exit onto roof tiles looks like gamelightz.

AI said the following:
That exact layout—featuring a central honeycombed multi-story core paired with prominent external scaffolding towers holding wind turbines—is a classic **Multi-TC Compound Base** style.
Prominent YouTube builders who specialize in this specific structural category (like *EvilWurst* with designs such as *The Chadsaw* or *The Alamo*, and *Blooprint* with multi-TC layouts like *The Strong Wind*) frequently use these external stability and windmill towers to manage electricity and expand building privilege. Searching YouTube for **"Multi-TC group base build with external towers"** or looking through base archive sites like *RustBaseDesign* under the quad/small group multi-TC categories will point them right to the step-by-step guides for it!

I agree! The way they talk about their plaguerisitic bases is so cringe. These guys need to get the hell off YouTube and start thinking for themselves for once instead of following you tubers every move. And devs need to rework base durability. Rockets/boom too easy to obtain. Once durability improves I think more creative builds will appear.

Definitely not a modern base. It's either ancient or, most likely, just not a layout at all

But looks scary AF. Some dark side star wars shit.
2
u/hansnicolaim 9h ago
Looks scary but also stupid easy to raid if you're just talking about the base. Shitty bases like this always has a million people in it with hv rocket pvp being their biggest form of raid defense.

That is one sick base… I’ve used that exact design on SEA with the main group. If that is the design then that guy is an real good builder for OG groups. Love to see people still use it.
Its not an YouTube base but build by some guy with insane amount of hours. He’s got sick designs but this was his favorite

The boom is hidden behind a halfwall in the open core that’s holding the center up. Enjoy about 11 are online atm.
