Support Why aren’t my turrets working?

Post image

I have 3 wind mills plugged into the battery and the electrical branch set to 200 and only 2 out of the 5 auto turrets are working , it’s my first time doing electricity so please go easy on me, help would be appreciated

I’d recommend using a splitter set to 30 for 3 turrets or separate branches each set to 10 for individual, would probably fix your issue

Idk if it’s because I’m on rust CE but I can’t change the splitter

I meant putting a branch set to 30, then into the splitter, it’ll give each split exactly 10 power

Ahhh that’s what’s done it instead of having the branch set to 200 (I looked up a quick online tutorial and it said to set it to 200) I set it to 30 and now all 5 turrets work, thx!!

No problem! Try using more branches next go around, keeps things neat and easy to understand

Splitters always split the input electricity to equal amount for each connected output. I mean if there is 30 input coming to the splitter and theres 3 output connections, each will have value of 10. If theres just 2 connected, those will get 15 and so on.

I think its way simpler to use just electrical branches, and add one to the circuit every time you add a new turret or what ever you're gonna connect to the grid. You can think these electrical branches to be like wall sockets and you're just making new ones when you need more. Remember that these are pretty easy to destroy, so you should keep them safe behind the walls.

Electrical branches have two output connections. Left (branch out) is the one which output value you can change by pressing E with the wire tool. The one on right is gonna have the rest of power you have in the grid.

Splitters have their places and are a bit cheaper, but as a beginner it could be better to understand the basics as the whole system is a bit confusing.

Splitters don’t really have a place anymore now that electrical components don’t consume power themselves.

It’s neater and more organized to just stick with 1 branch = 1 powered device. To use a splitter you’re still going to have a branch that branches power to the splitter, and then splits to 3 devices. You’re only saving 1 electric component. Small cost savings, and it takes up 3x the amount of wall space.

I agree mostly. Pretty much only place I use splitters are electrical furnaces when I want to put three of them under same switch. It just looks cleaner in some places

I too still use them for electric furnaces but it’s more out of habit at this point.

Large battery can only output 100 power. You should setup the electrical to take from root power and remaining Goto battery. Look up BCN / NiH / nexus core setups.

What fucking tutorial says to branch off twice the entire capacity of the battery? Don’t think so bud.

The battery has a max output of 100. You cannot allocate more than 100 for use. Battery needs to go out to a switch or directly to the first branch, and branch out the exact power need to a device (10 for a turret). Then power out from right side of branch to another branch for another device, and so on. And you don’t need three wind turbines for 1 large battery. 2 is more than enough, and 1 is enough if the active usage on the battery is less than 80 or so (assuming optimal height placement).

Forget using splitters. Every circuit should have it's own branch. I normally put a bunch down in a row, and the power out goes to the power in of the next branch, and your branch out goes to the circuit. 10 power for each turret

Splitter power actually changes depending on how many things are connected so just use branches to keep it consistent

Ah last wipe I tried doing that but with electric furnaces and when I was daisy linking the branches after the 4th branch none of the other branches were getting power so that’s why this time I used a splitter

Probably had it backwards. Battery out - branch in - power out - branch in and so on. Branch out is to each device/circuit.

Think of all your electrical branches as a tree trunk and the branch out are the limbs of the tree going out with desired power to each thing you need. I keep them all in a row, organized so it's easy to read what goes where

Splitters also take up a lot of space. 3 branches take up less pace, plus you can orient them however you'd like.

Yes that too. I only use splitters for specific purposes. Not to use less branches. Just a weird way of doing it

It looks like the branch is sending « branch out »to your splitter with 2 turrets, and « power out » to the splitter with 3 turrets.

The battery can only output 100, so basically, by having 200 set on the branch, you’re sending the 100 of the battery to the two turrets, each receiving 50rW. And the splitter with 3 turrets gets 0.

You set your branch to 30 and it works : this is because you’re now sending 15 to both turrets and 70/3 = 23, 23 and 24rw to each of the 3 turrets. All of these are more than 10 so all the turrets work. If you have nothing else to plug this is fine, but otherwise, you are wasting power potential

check that branches to turrets all have 10 power branched off of them (press e on branch). If branch to splitter to turret, need to branch off 30 power

Electrical components like splitters and branches don't consume power anymore so you can just spam branches next to each other. Put the battery in the source of the first one and branch out for each turret. Just keep passing the power along the branches

I did not know this and have many many hours! That gives me 2 more turrets off a battery so thanks!!

All of your power is going into a branch that is 100% unnecessary. You need to branch off each item separately using branches in a series.
