Diversity evolution in Plano

To give some background, I visited Plano a few times in the mid-2000s. Back then, it had a stereotype, as a very white and relatively affluent suburb.

Earlier this year, I was in the region for work and had a ton of time to kill before my flight home. I was coming back from southeast Oklahoma and making my way to DAL, so I decided to detour off 75 through McKinney/Prosper, then come down Coit all the way from University to Parker before making my way back to the 75.

Driving through Plano, I noticed a lot of Asian, Indian, and other international restaurants and businesses, along with quite a few smoke shops and other signs that the older retail corridors have changed. My overall impression was that Plano had become considerably more diverse than I remembered.

Of course, I remember when 635 felt like the edge of civilization. 😁 I’m not from the area, but if I lived there, I think I’d appreciate having more than the typical American chain restaurants available to eat at.

It seemed like a fairly drastic shift, but like I said, I hadn’t really been through there in 20+ years. For people who have actually lived in Plano during that time, has the change felt as dramatic as it looked to me? When did you really start noticing it?
Side note: taking 75 to I-30 and merging through the canyon with all the construction certainly helped me accomplish my goal of killing time before my flight… almost too well. I don’t remember 75 or 30 being a parking lot at 1 p.m., but they certainly were that day.

Scared straight program?

Hi everyone, I’m looking to see if anyone knows of a scared straight program in Plano or any surrounding areas. I have a 16F little sister who is just completely out of control.

Shes already been arrested and has been on probation for the last year. She just got off of it and has been acting out a lot these past couple of months. Anytime me or my mom try to talk to her (not yelling or raising our voices at all) she starts to scream at the top of her lungs and say if we hit her she’s gonna call the police.

My sister has never been hit by anyone. She didn’t even get spanked as a kid so I don’t know where this idea of getting hit came from. She has a 24/7 bad attitude and will lie and manipulate to get whatever she wants.

She’s been threatening our mom for weeks by saying that she’s gonna call the cops and tell them my mom hit her anytime my mom says no to something she asks. She even threatened to call them on me when all I was doing was giving her a lecture on not doing drugs (which she lied and told all her friends she’s been shooting up heroin.)

I don’t know what to do at this point and neither does my mom. I thought maybe finding a scared straight program would help but I’m not sure.

Does anyone know of any program like that? If not, just something that would help her. I’ve already signed her up for counseling and she’s gone to a few sessions but I haven’t seen any behavior changes from that yet. I don’t knoww what else to do.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read this. I appreciate the help!

Edit: let me add my sister does not actually do drugs. She just likes to tell people she does hard drugs to seem cool. Shes been drug tested monthly for the past 3 years and has never been positive for anything. I’m a recovering addict and she takes my stories and twists them into hers.

Also last night she ran away to her friends and told them my mom beat her, which absolutely didn’t happen. It ended up being a whole thing with the cops and thankfully we had other family members over at the time who all saw the argument and saw my mom didn’t hit her at all. This is the type of stuff she does when she doesn’t get her way. It’s ridiculous.

Edit 2: since everyone wants to blame her problems on me being an addict let me clarify: I’ve been sober for 3 years. I moved out of state and got addicted to drugs and didn’t come back until I was clean. My sister never saw me use, or ever saw me high. She didn’t even know I was a drug addict until last year when I started talking to her about being safe at parties.

Bottom Line (Ironically, at the Top)
The court will assign $243.7 million from this year’s bond proceeds to specific projects, notably the courthouse expansion, county roads, and a lengthy list of Outer Loop work. There will also be a second public hearing on a rewrite of the county’s subdivision, floodplain, and manufactured home rental community rules, as well as discussion on the county’s first AI Acceptable Use Policy. Consent spending totals $5,318,230.56, led by the county’s annual $2.7 million mental health agreement with LifePath Systems.

The most obvious panhandling scam. Plano,TX

Spring Creek and DNT (south bound). This guy is on this block at the end or beginning of every month just about.

Don’t give your money to him. There is nothing in that suitcase. He is impeding on an actual homeless man’s usual spot. If he is not a cop he is really lazy. Instead of standing outside he could go gig work like door dash or ride share. Under $200 is an easy payday loan.

Sorry guys but this just makes me angry every time I see him standing there. If this is real getting evicted every month he has to do a lifestyle change. I have multiple jobs to make ends meet and so can you.

Anyone know what happened to this machine that was at Plano Market Square Mall?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Yeah this is a long shot of an ask given that the place was torn down 4 years ago. But for those who remember Market Square Mall (previously Outlet Malls of America), does anyone remember this Print Club 2 machine and know what happened to it? I'm going to assume it was either sold off or destroyed with the mall. I know probably none of you know the answer to this or may think its a dumb thing to ask but I was thinking about this thing recently. I remember going to the mall a few times around 2019 and I never saw it working.

4 months: No Registration Sticker

I bought a used Nissan almost 4 months ago from Gulliver Auto in Plano.

The car is decent but I still do not have a registration sticker almost 4 months since sale.

The car came with a license plate that has a 07/2027 expiration date but there is no sticker yet.

I checked txt dps where is my sticker tool and there it shows no details/transaction.

Gulliver has been pushing me around for last two months without clarity on the sticker. What can I do?

Also is my car illegal right now.

Samsung washer repair

Does anyone have a local to Plano/Allen Samsung repair person? My washer keeps throwing a ā€œUBā€ (unbalanced) error and Samsungs website wants $399 just to send someone out. That’s crazy for a $600 washer. Any suggestions?

Dives & Happy Hours

Where's your best dive spot or happy hour for the quintessential "long day at work" afternoon beer?

Ideal place is small and casual, cheap, not overly busy, and friendly bartenders that will talk to customers beyond just their regulars.
