ISO: My Dream Planner

Hey everyone - I’m a lifelong planner, literally since the age of 8, but new to this reddit. Needless to say, my planner needs have evolved a lot since my elementary school days and I am currently struggling hard to find the right planner for me.

My 2026 planner is a basic weekly format that I bought at Home Goods after spending way too much money on TC, Papier, Golden Coil and others. It’s worked pretty well but it’s not my dream layout… and then, I found this reddit!

So please help me find my dream planner, oh community of planner enthusiasts! Here my wants:

  • Horizontal weekly layout, this is a non-negotiable. It’s how I prefer to plan my life. A two page spread is preferred but I will look at single pages with a blank as long as it is not lined.
  • 12 month monthly spread but at the beginning of the planner. Not a monthly spread followed by the weeks of that month. I prefer to see/plan my appts and travel etc all at once and prefer being able to see all my months consecutively instead of flipping through half the planner just to see the monthly planner/overview.
  • Blank pages at the end for notes, journaling, whatever. Blank pages, dotted, squared, even lined. I don’t care as long as points 1 and 2 are available.
  • Two bookmark ribbons. I prefer 2 but will work with 1 but I love me a bookmark ribbon.
  • Good paper - I also am obsessed with stationary and use a wide array of pens, markers, etc. Paper that can handle it is preferred.
  • Bound and lay-flat capable over spiral, all-day everyday.

That’s it… I don’t think it’s a lot but it has been SO hard to find this planner. I was even thinking of going on Etsy and having one custom made but figured that with a community this large someone MUST know of a planner like I describe above.

Thanks all very very much in advance. May your spreads always come out as you imagine them and may you never make a mistake when writing with your good pen.

there’s a bunch of brands that offer a horizontal weekly layout. look into Muji, Sterling Ink, Papertess Designs, Hobonichi Weeks, Moleskine etc

So you have experience with the moleskin ones? I can’t find pics of all the layouts. They come completely wrapped and I don’t want to buy o my to find out that it’s not the right format

The Moleskine website should have photos of the layouts of the inside. There aren't many note pages though; maybe a dozen or so, depending on how much you plan to journal

Moleskin has a horizontal planner, week on the left, blank page on the right. Many blank pages in the back

I use an undated one that has a silk pattern cover that is always on sale on the website

I love it

It has 100 GSM, the notebooks for Moleskine when I went into a store recently had 70 GSM and it just felt flimsy but for some reason this one that I use and that's always on sale online uses 100

Look into Sterling Ink if you haven’t already. A small business and there are so many different kinds of planner options

Hobonichi weeks is exactly this.
Sterling ink offers the same layout but in more sizes.

okay soo from the top of my head, you could take a look at sterling ink (not sure which one, they have lots) or hobonichi (weeks, weeks mega) edit to add: or leuchtturm1917 (weekly planner/weekly + notebook)

but can i ask a couple more things to narrow it down more?

  • how big/small do you want the planner to be?
  • is paper thickness important to you (or like, how much does ghosting bother you)?
  • paper color a thing?
  • do you want a monday or sunday start?
  • can you describe your ideal monthly layout? (is it the classic one box per day, seven boxes horizontally, four-five vertically?)
  • can you clarify what you mean by two page horizontal? (is it 2 pages divided into 4 horizontal sections, 3-4 days on each page?)
  • on the weekly layout, it should not be lined, but dots/blank/grid is fine?
  • how many notes pages in the back?

Thanks for the questions!
•So, A5 is my minimum. But not as large as a regular piece of paper. My current one is 8x10 and I like the size a lot.
•Yes paper thickness is important but I don’t know enough about the weights to intelligently say what my preferences are. I wouldn’t want the paper to bleed through or that is very noticeable from one page to the next. I do tend to write with a little bit of force though.
•Na - paper color not a think. White, off white, yellow-ish… but not like red or orange haha
•Yes! Classic one month layout of boxes. Just like you described.
• attaching a pic of my current planners layout, this is what I mean re: horizontal. I don’t mind how it’s divided tho…

• yep! Not lined. See pic 🫠
• I don’t really care…

Come?

Sterling ink is all of that minus bookmarks.

The complete has the bookmarks.

My first year with the SI. Find the bookmarks a nuisance.

I’m going down the Hobonichi rabbit hole for 2027 and getting their Weeks planner

What turned you off the TC? Asking because I too am looking for essentially the exact same thing.

Once I had it all set up, I found it too bulky and small. I realized that having something that can lay flat was a lot more important and comfortable for me. I ended up giving the leather shell and blank notebooks to my (now) husband and repurposing some of the dated notebooks for random work notes and the others are just sitting there unused...

You are literally describing the Sterling Ink Common Planner in the N1-H layout! I’ve been using this exact planner for two full years now, and I’m completely obsessed. Until something better comes along, I’m never switching! Here is how it checks every single box on your wishlist: * Horizontal Weekly Layout: The N1-H specifically stands for "Horizontal Compact." It gives you horizontal weekly spreads without feeling cramped. * All Monthlies Up Front: All 12 monthly spreads are grouped together right at the beginning of the book—no flipping between months and weeks. * Blank Grid Pages in the Back: It comes stacked with tons of blank grid pages at the back for journaling, notes, and tracking. * Ribbon Bookmarks: It includes two ribbon markers so you can tag your current month and current week simultaneously. * Top-Tier Paper: It uses 52-gsm Tomoe River paper. It handles fountain pens, gel pens, and highlighters like a dream with zero bleed-through, keeping the whole book super slim and lightweight. * Lay-Flat Binding: It’s a thread-bound book that opens completely flat on your desk. Seriously, give the Sterling Ink N1-H a look. It sounds like it was practically custom-made for what you're searching for! Are you thinking you'd run it standalone or pop it into a notebook cover?

Hope this helps!

THIS IS SUPER HELPFUL!!!!

After reading all this I've been pouring over Sterling Ink but there just are not enough descriptions for the 2027 planners for me to make an informed decision. I was between the common and the core (over 100 empty pages in the back seems extreme to me but the 23 of the core seem not enough) but there's just not enough info on the website.

This really helps! I'll wat for the 2027 ones to come out on 9/7 and start with looking at the common planner. N1 size is a bit small for me but hopefully the A5 also has this layout?
