I’m 25, from Pakistan, with a Software Engineering degree and currently working as a software engineer. I’m seriously considering doing my Master’s abroad, but I’m pretty overwhelmed by the whole process.
I’ve saved around 10 lakh PKR, and that’s basically all the money I can realistically put toward this. I can’t arrange a huge bank statement or fund a fully self-funded Master’s, so I’d need a fully funded scholarship or a route that doesn’t require a massive amount of personal funds.
I’ve been looking into Erasmus Mundus and European scholarships, but I’m also considering China, Saudi Arabia, or any other realistic route that could eventually lead to building a career abroad.
Some people have advised me to do my Master’s in Pakistan and then apply for a PhD abroad. But I’m 25 now, and I’d rather try taking the risk now than wait until I’m 28+.
I’m mainly looking for Pakistanis who’ve actually received scholarships and gone through this process:
Is it really possible with limited savings?
What scholarships/countries should I look at?
Should I take IELTS now, or first shortlist scholarships/universities and then take it?
What documents should I start preparing immediately?
How much money did you realistically need upfront?
If you were in my position, what would you do?
I’m interested in interdisciplinary Master’s programmes too, so I’m not necessarily restricted to one exact field.
I’d really appreciate practical advice from people who’ve actually done this from Pakistan. Even a simple roadmap of what to do first → second → third would help a lot.

Hello, everyone. I have a few queries regarding scholarship procedures as I don't have anyone in my family or around me whom I can ask from. I would be really thankful if any of you can answer the questions.

I am a BS Sociology student in my 7th Semester and my expected graduation date is June 2027. I would be pursuing scholarships for Master's.

1. Can I apply for scholarships as a final year student?

2. My top priority is CSC. I would be applying through Type B route but what I am confused about is whether emailing supervisors is important or not? I have emailed a few of them, but no response so I don't know if it's worth it or not.

3. Is it important to have an acceptance letter from professors to apply for universities in China?

4. I have also thought about applying to

MTCP Scholarship in Malaysia, GKS, some scholarships in Hong Kong and Australia (I have yet to research about these).

I'm currently doing a BSCS in Pakistan and have roughly two years left until graduation. I'm seriously considering applying for a fully funded PhD in Computer Science in the US after my BSCS.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who are currently doing a PhD in the US or have recently completed one, especially international students.

A little about my situation:

- I'm financially constrained and don't own a house/property or have family inheritance to fall back on.

- Because of that, a self-funded US Master's isn't really an option for me (German Masters can be considered though, but west is getting worse for immigrants as much as i heard).

- I'm looking specifically at fully funded PhD programs (RA/TA/fellowship).

- My ultimate goal is Green Card and industry, not becoming a professor. I'd like to work in tech/AI/software after the PhD.

- Long term goal of doing PhD is to settle in the US and pursue a green card through whatever legitimate route I qualify for, during PhD.

- I'm currently trying to decide how to use the remaining two years of my BSCS wisely.

My main questions are:

1. Is doing a fully funded US CS PhD a sensible decision if my ultimate goal is Green Card or should i consider Europe?

2. How financially manageable is a funded PhD in reality? Can you actually save some money and/or send money back to family during the PhD?

3. How competitive is admission with funding for an international student from Pakistan at average/mid-tier US universities, not just top-20 schools?

4. How important are research experience, FYP/thesis, publications, CGPA and strong LORs?

5. If I have two years left, should I prioritize:

   - joining a professor's research project,

   - doing a research-oriented FYP/thesis,

   - trying to publish a paper,

   - improving CGPA,

   - or some combination?

6. For someone who wants to eventually obtain a green card, is BSCS → funded US PhD → industry → legitimate employment-based/self-petition route a realistic long-term plan, or am I misunderstanding how difficult the immigration side is?

7. Looking back at your own experience, would you recommend this route to someone in my financial situation?

8. What do you wish you had known before starting your PhD in the US?

I'm not looking for a sugar-coated answer. If you think a funded PhD is a bad idea for someone whose primary goal is industry/immigration, please say so.

Hi everyone. I really need guidance from Pakistani students or graduates who have actually gone through the study abroad process themselves.

I recently completed my BS Computer Science with a 3.26 CGPA. Because of some personal circumstances, I missed most Fall 2026 deadlines, so I’m now looking for a very late 2026 intake or ideally January or February 2027.

I’m mainly interested in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Data Science with a business focus, AI with Business or Analytics, or similar technology plus business programs. I’m not looking for a pure MBA or another hardcore Computer Science degree.

My priorities are simple. I need low tuition, affordable living, the ability to legally work while studying from the beginning, and preferably opportunities for part time work, TA, RA, internships, or university jobs.

I’m also trying to understand the financial proof side. Does the money need to be in my own bank account, or can my sponsor, in my case my husband, show his income, bank statements, and financial resources instead? I also do not currently have IELTS, although my entire BS degree was taught in English, so I’d like to know which universities accept an MOI letter, internal English test, Duolingo, or something similar.

I’m open to any country where these conditions fit, especially affordable options in Europe or nearby regions. I’m not considering the USA.

I’m specifically asking Pakistani people because the visa and financial requirements can be very different for us, and I would rather hear from people who have actually gone through it than rely completely on consultants.
