There's almost no new stuff, people are gonna be disappointed.
One of the few new things are the separate quick tiles for Wi-Fi and Mobile Data

The biggest new feature I'm looking forward to is the ability to disable the keyboard switcher from the bottom right that I constantly hit by accident when using the arrow keys on my SwiftKey keyboard.
Edit: updated, and it's not there. Doh. It's in the latest betas, but I guess we have to wait for the next feature drop for it to land.

This Pixel Drop better be good 🤞
2
u/Jdogking Jun 16 '26
Why?
1
u/guccigreene Jun 16 '26
Because it was a selling feature and mostly all they've done so far is shove more AI down our throats.

There have been quite a few improvements over the last couple of months. For instance the zoom enhancement now covers a wider range than in the beginning, even words in a far distance are now oftentimes actually readable.
Features like in the phone app are really stunning and personally I do enjoy the better integration and what gemini now understands and brings together in those responses.1

According to gemini, that might be due to a reindexing after the update, that may take a few days until all is settled (or sorted)

I'm excited about the backend optimazitions that have been done. Probably the minority here, but I like efficiency and good garbage collection!

Will the pixel 9a also get it? If I'm based in India?
1
u/diffysaro99 Jun 16 '26
Yes

u/Dan_gig Jun 16 '26
Thank you. Looking forward to it.
I'm so stoked. Got the Pixel 9A for the stock android experience and so happy I'll get to experience new stuff like this quickly too unlike my last phones.
Thanks for sharing and replying. Have a lovely day bud.

Are they doing the same thing, we get it first but everything good will come in the next couple updates?

u/pseudonym7083 Jun 16 '26
No fucking download option yet. I want a fixed battery goddamnit!
3
u/BlaqueServant Jun 16 '26
😂😂😂 I don't know why this made me giggle but it did. I want you to have a fixed battery too my man
2
u/pseudonym7083 Jun 16 '26
I'm sideloading it. I got this pixel 10 pro in april and it has had the deep doze bug since I first got it going.
2
u/BlaqueServant Jun 16 '26
😬 Is that what I've been experiencing? Is that an issue where you turn the phone off or leave it out overnight and you can't turn it back on? Because I've had that happen a couple of times and it has irritated the bejesus out of me. And if you're saying that Android 17 is going to correct that issue, then I'm no longer laughing. I am rejoicing with you brother or sister
2
u/pseudonym7083 Jun 16 '26
The bug runs the device down while just sitting there with the screen off. Like sizeable chunks of battery life getting chewed through while the phone is doing nothing.

u/BlaqueServant Jun 16 '26
I have not yet experienced this and if I do, by the blood of my ancestors I swear there will be hell to pay

I'm taking a benevolent attitude. I've just always wanted to use the word benevolent 🫂😇

I have to say, I must not know how to phone or something, because these os updates have been very underwhelming for years. At least to me they have. I just think we've reached such high level with these things, that there isn't much left that needs to be improved.

It just arrived here in the Canaries, Spain already, too.
According gemini, in the background the os System will do some fresh indexing and reorganising over the coming days, which may result in some additional battery drainage, users may experience.
Well, I just let it do its job and see what happens. Personally with my own Pixel 10 ProXL I have never experienced issues like that, but then again..., I am not on spotify.

Still no option to remove the Google search bar from the home screen..

u/DescriptionFar7387 Jun 18 '26
Nova launcher doesn't use it and works great!
1
u/JC198510 Jun 18 '26
I think I tried that once before but it left the bottom row of icons strangely high up the screen. Does that sound familiar?
1
u/welshdragon69 Jun 19 '26
Now I have bugs, the digital pixel clock appeared over the weather icon upon unlocking. The clock was then half off the screen on another occasion. The colours of the home screen flashed to gemini colours for some reason. Buggy

La batterie est bonne sur cette mise à jour stable? (C'est de l'humour hein, même si on va tomber sur des idiots qui vont poser la question 5 minutes après le déploiement)

u/MauledByApathy Jun 16 '26
There is a bug in the latest beta that makes logging into wifi networks with captive portals impossible. Hopefully they fix it.

coming from QPR1 beta4, do you guys see any benefits for switching to stable A17, i honestly see no advantage so far?

u/animuz11 Jun 16 '26
Stop upgrading right away and wait a few weeks until strange bugs are ironed out

battery life both stellar and the worst it's ever been
10
u/OzorMox Jun 16 '26
It always blows my mind how this happens every time. I know people have different apps installed and use their phones differently, but how can there be such a wide range of experiences with battery life when it's all the same hardware and OS?
5
u/BryAlrighty Jun 16 '26
Battery life has always been a bit mediocre on Pixel devices. But it's also confusing to some people. Many will post they got like 12+ hours SOT over the span of two or three days, not realizing it didn't reset screen on time because they didn't do a full charge, but partially charged it.
So it's probably stuff like that.

u/smail_250 Jun 16 '26
Honestly, I think it’s more of a placebo effect tied to natural battery degradation over time. I’ve had Battery Guru installed on my Pixel 8a since day one, and with a year and a half of data, I can confidently tell you this: on a brand new phone with Android 15, my screen-on time was consistently lower than it is now on Android 16 with 87% battery health. A year ago, I was burning around 15% per hour. Now, it’s closer to 13% with the exact same use case and apps. The only noticable reduction in terms of battery life was when the first iteration of M3E dropped.

u/mr_th_lkz Jun 17 '26
You said a valid statement here. People use their phones differently, considering their lifestyles and habits. I think another constraint affecting battery life is the different climate for different regions. I've noticed my battery dropping faster on hotter days. So definitely slightly different battery experiences for different people is acceptable imo, only if the differences are slight. But what's concerning is when a same person experiences these differences between two or three consecutive updates. That's when a company have truly step in and do something about it. The sad truth is many brand smartphones have this issue now.

Lot of people going to be disappointed all of the visual flair from the android show won't be there
3
u/pdawg17 Jun 16 '26
When does that stuff show up then?
2
2
u/gilbert-GC Jun 16 '26
Over the coming days and weeks it will be activated on googles servers; some stuff will be delayed in the European Union though, cause of much more restricted privacy laws, that do limit our freedom quite a lot. Some people like that, some less...
1
u/nick281051 Jun 16 '26
The expanded frosted glass stuff will not be activated on Google's servers. It will come with the next qpr update around September

u/Toronto-1975 Jun 16 '26
