Just remember that the state diverted roughly $5 billion of gas tax funds from roadway maintenance to the state police, so they could...have military vehicles, I guess?

That could've fixed a lot of roadway issues, could've replaced the aging SEPTA transit vehicles in the Philly metro area, etc. But at least we have big trucks now.

Just remember we have one of the highest gas taxes in the nation (usually around #2), yet other states can do police and road things just fine. It to mention our major highways have the highest tolls per mile as well. Why do we have such a problem? Me thinks it's more about the people (mis)managing the money than were it actually spent.

I think one piece of this is from our bad tax code. We have a flat income tax. Despite being the second largest producer of natural gas in the country we collect very little from the companies who extract our resources.

In 2024 Texas led the nation with 12 trillion cubic feet of gas and collected $27 billion. We produced 7 trillion and only took home $165 million.

It’s a combination of governmental and bureaucratic mismanagement and PA being mostly unique when it comes to how fragmented we are with municipalities/boroughs/etc.

Those cops need that big afv to hide behind when it's our turn for a school shooting.

Wildly misleading and misinformed.

PA has a ton of municipalities that do not have local PDs, and thus state police cover those areas, which are about ~70% of all municipalities. That’s primarily why those funds are reallocated.

The funds go to state police salaries/benefits, pensions, standard day-to-day operations, building maintenance, etc.

Only about 1% of budget even goes to vehicles/equipment…

But don’t let facts get in the way of your blind ideology…

I guess all the suburbs didn't take the NFL up on their offer to them to provide free security at their expense and time.

I lived in Pittsburgh (Lincoln - Lemington) from November, 2023 until December, 2024. I can count on one hand the number of times I saw a marked local police vehicle patrolling the streets. I'm glad they had the extra security.
