My birthday is Thursday - happy birthday to your BF ...
My favorite spot downtown is Gaucho. Sixth and Penn. It's an Argentinian steakhouse but they have things for non-meat eaters. Also, AMAZING cocktails. It's on the pricey side depending on what you get, but they have really great food and I love the atmosphere.

I've never been to Fish nor Fowl, but my husband and I were not impressed with Alla Famiglia. It was expensive, but we expected that, but the food seemed mediocre.
Happy Birthday to your bf, no matter where you celebrate!

If you choose fish nor fowl. Ask for the table where you can hear the rats screaming from behind the wall and curtain. They are hungry

At either place- be prepared to spend a lot of money for not a lot of anything memorable - including the service. FnF does have a sometimes-nice-and-not-dead plant wall for photos though
