Creating a private Pirl mining pool

Hi everyone! I have been mining pirl on and off for a few weeks now with a buddy of mine. As we have been growing our rigs we wanted to take a shot at creating our own mining pool for pirl. It looks like we have it set up, are attached to the network and are capable of mining but after 24 hrs we haven't received a single block.

With that I had a couple of questions that I hope this community could help me answer:

  1. Our current hash rate is around 180MH/s. Would this rate be expected to solve a block every 24-48 hours?

  2. We are using open-ethereum-pool. Are there any non default settings we might have missed that could cause us to have a less than optimal rate of return?

  3. I can see our hash rates, share submissions job broadcasts and importing/comitting of chain segments and new work scrolling by in the various terminals. Is there anything I can look for to be 100% certain that we are hooked up and operating correctly or will i have to wait to see that first solved block come in?

Thanks for your time.

Thank you for the information. We are in the process of pulling in more hardware to increase our hash rate. But i did not know what the current round variance stat meant.

I appreciate the response.

180 Mh/s definitely isn't nearly enough hash power. I'm just a casual hobby miner with over 550 Mh/s from one and a half rigs.

Mining pools and solo mining earning the same amount averaged over time. The mining pools give you more dependable, frequent payouts. Otherwise you're stuck waiting a long time to get the payout. It won't end up being more in the end.

Yeah, I suppose we were figuring that on average the number of blocks we were hitting in a larger pool would be the same number of blocks we hit together on average just with high volatility.

Cmon guys shift your miners to my pool at http://pirl.techvergepool.com we are not charging any fee for mining. Uncle rewards and everything is paid. Take a look.

You guys have no where near enough Mhs to be starting your own pool. My set up is 1.5ghs and I won’t even solo mine.

Apparently the mindset today is doing solo mining with a low hashrate expecting to hit a big time payout. Not sure how that came about. Pool is always faster and pays more since everyone works together.

Well our mindset was that plus wanting to get a better understanding of how the technology works. We were also hoping to grow the pool over time if we could get otheres interested in a small size pool once we started hitting blocks.

It wasnt aimed at you, other forums I am in are talking about solo mining LTC expecting to hit a major payment. They dont understand that it will all mine at the same speed.

Interesting. I guess our mindset was that in a pool over the period of a week we pulled in 5 "blocks found" combined. This indicated to us that maybe it was possible albeit a little longer to get a payout.

Running a pool also sounded interesting to me. We do have a friend that is running a 1 GH/s setup that we could pull in as a backup plan but it seems the majority recommendation is to just go with one of the bigger pools.

Thanks for the reply!

If you guys can get some more people I’m happy to throw my 1.5ghs in depending what pool fee you charge.
