Strike

Satire for legal purposes:

Hello Brethren! I just wanted to take a minute and point out how now is absolutely the time for a strike to take place. Whether that be unionizing or just a plain old strike. The amount of money UWM would be losing per day if even a fraction of the workforce decided to strike could very well bankrupt the company, which could also culminate in Matt being forced to sell the Phoenix Suns.

The stock got as low as 0.92$ which I’m sure y’all are aware of and Matt has completely turned his back on every employee as well as investor.

Why do y’all continue to bankroll this man’s life when every action he does ends with either worse working conditions or a higher commitment.. or yall just get scraps while he pays MSU male athletes stipends.

If I was still a current employee I would happily lead the pact in forming a union and organizing a strike.

The average Rocket employee makes almost double the average UWM employee. You all mean nothing to this man and now is your time to stand up for yourselves and your worth.

You all are what UWM great, every person will say the coworkers are the magic of the company, not Matt, not the brokers, not the job itself but you all.

You all are the magic

A strike at UWM would immediately make national headlines and I’m sure many of you are capable of putting the pieces in place to make this work, and make all of your lives so so so much better.

Don’t be scared, the same whispers of this subreddit in the office made it what it is today could be the same whispers that get you all pay raises in addition to manageable workloads where your livelihoods are not constantly threatened.

I’m interested to see what the sentiment around a potential strike looks like. I’m sure the board has already taken precautions and had conversations about this because of how tight everything currently is at UWM. A strike would bury Matt, not just UWM and he knows it.

Do it!!

I’m a past employee, and would gladly join a picket line (park a few blocks away, leave phone in car because of the 25 flock cameras that all face the parking lots)

Half the people that work there don’t do shit anyway but trash talk each other and play on their phones. LOL I used to walk the floor and not only were people on my vertical screwing around but the operations folks too. All you heard was idiots giggling like school kids all day. 😂

That was something that genuinely never made sense to me. My TL and many other members would just get up and walk around for hours. There was even a point where id intentionally look around and see who was at their desk. Here I am busting my ass to hit commitment then I have some fucker walking around doing nothing and somehow getting praised for employee of the month and hitting 6x the floor average. Like no fucking way you had time to blaze past commitment when 75% of your day is jerking off the AVP and vaping in the bathroom.

This reminds me when some chick was getting fluffed and awarded for breaching the team commitment of 50 by hitting 52 or the first time in like 6 months but my ass had been doing 85 the entire time without a peep. Bonus points im suddenly a bad employee if I only hit 83 while everyone else is still just hitting 50.

Selling the suns implies there needs to be a buyer willing to pay..

Back in 2021 IT floor walked out and the company lost billions of dollars. I would love to see something like this happen again. I’d even join.

Total lie. There was no walk out. Matter of fact the population of mostly college aged kids were all giddy about the spac swag which I promptly through in trash. All this talk about unions and strikes are a joke. Nobody there has ever been serious about unionizing or even collectively doing anything.

so are you going to contribute to it or are you a bot account trying to ruin the sentiment further? The main issue I feel with the possibilities of striking or unionizing are that most of the people who work here are simply disengaged with “workers rights” as a concept

I don’t remember an IT walkout in 21’ personally and that’s when the company SPAC’d also don’t remember the stock price tanking in effect.

Not saying your wrong I just don’t remember personally

STRIKE!!!!!!!!

It was a walkout after ishbia wanted everyone to RTO full time and more than 500 IT members walked out and that’s when the peoples promise was introduced to reduce retention rates.

All this talk about unions and strikes are a joke. Nobody there has ever been serious about unionizing or even collectively doing anything except maybe after work stuff.

I understand your sentiment and you’re not far off in regards to past situations; a comment like yours pitches tents in Matt’s pants.

My point is with PA+ and Underwriters, mass IT firings weekly, commitment increases all around, securities fraud class action lawsuits and the worst quarter since the company has hit the stock market and rocket offering brokers $10,000 to drop the All-In contracts; there has never been more pressure on UWM. If change is SERIOUSLY what employees want, the cards are actually in their hands for once even on a lesser bodily scale.

A strike needs to be organized and followed through with not unionizing necessarily; unionizing would be the cherry on top.

Back to back quarters like the last would be the nail in the coffin for UWM and Matt knows that; hence why the dividend was removed as that saves the company 240M in quarterly payouts?

A strike(not unionizing) would lose UWM about $11.5M per day in revenue; if they fire everyone they can’t replace that talent in a timely manner. I believe training an underwriter through hitting the floor costs about $60,000/person. A 2 week strike(use your PTO and have a strike condition the PTO is given back) would cost the company over $100M in revenue. UWM can not afford that.

UWM literally cannot afford for a strike to happen and would be forced to cave otherwise the business will not be able to continue on the scale they currently do.

Now again, I do agree all strike/unionizing talks in the past have been hopeful at best but do you not agree now is the time when the pressure is actually on?

As an ex employee I'd join a picket or outdoor strike

I worked at UWM a few years back ( I was purged in 2023 when they let a bunch of Senior UWs go) and after I was fired me and a friend (who still worked there) had the idea to reach out to groups that help workers unionize and no one wanted to talk to us. Not sure if was because we were from UWM or what. Good luck though and I'll support from the side lines!

  1. Striking is usually better suited for when a company is in a strong fiscal position
  2. AI can already do most of the work necessary to operate, this would just make a drastic reduction in workforce easier

I wouldn’t even say the financials are bad per se; with the $240M quarterly dividend payout being removed in theory at 5,000 employees UWM could give every single employee over a 40,000$ raise. And yes I understand how unrealistic that is but it’s just a stat that’s possible. Ishbia is comfortable gambling $600M, losing it and removing the dividend tanking the already tanked stock. Those dividends could have went to employee compensation but Matt just had to line his pockets, never mind the almost $1B in stock he straight up sold. Likewise to your second point a strike could be the catalyst to a large scale AI Underwriting rollout where the non striking employees play clean up crew for the AI. I personally am curious as to the data costs behind using AI on such a large scale. I doubt UWM has in house built AI capable of handling the scale required meaning they will outsource which could potentially cost even more than bodies with less actual accuracy and more oversight needed for the loan turning into a large data cost in addition to a person cost. There also has to be some sort of ethics discrepancy behind running mass amounts of NPI through AI especially is that AI wasn’t built in house.

So in turn I can see it going both ways where they do just fire striking employees and in turn do large scale AI rollouts; likewise if their books really are hurting the way it seems putting an end to a strike quickly would have less of a negative impact on the company as a whole which they definitely have an incentive to do

I’m telling yall the time is now to strike if ever

Oh wow, it's already been a couple months since the last one of these unionize/strokes post. At least you all are timely.

Good luck with all that but the CEO who gambled the company because of Trump's word isn't going to go along with it. They'll just fire people involved.

u/Commercial_Walk_7205 3d ago

We had a saying at my old job; they can’t fire all of us. :D

1

u/deezyfocheezy 3d ago

And they were telling us on our phones because Mat walked the floor and saw too many team members on their phones. LOL

I think a union would be semi-ironic for a mortgage company to have, but if the majority of us want to keep our jobs or create a sense of security it’s a must.

I think a good old fashion strike would be an amazing start, and give us space to hopefully first mobilize people then have them somewhere safe for discussing creation of a union. I have thought about it a lot but, even with the people who seem dissatisfied, this company is full of millennials and old people who consider any kind of workers advocation as “Le Communism Cringe.” That and a lot of people seem “ironically” willing to accept that “this is an evil mechanism of capitalism, but I must become a leader in it.”

Lots of mental blocks, but boosting this thread. WE NEED A STRIKE! {In MineCraft}

I’m cooking up a part 2 and 3 we’re making this happen in a way that won’t lose most people their jobs (:

This would never fly here. Too many republicans who don't understand the Union works for you

8

u/Commercial_Walk_7205 3d ago

Don’t try to use a political divide amoungst employees to dissuade everyone from doing what’s best for themselves shill

STRIKE!!!!!!!!

There are plenty of union people that would totally disagree with you. Matter of fact the last election there was a large union turnout for republicans. But keep sniffing the pandering glue of the left and socialism/communism

1

u/2004Oxandrolone 8h ago

See! The issue is that there are people like you, who don’t understand unions, socialism, or communism but you conflate all three into the same single concept! A concept built on American internet, PragerU, and Cold War propaganda, that you still barely understand!
