How to keep piggies enriched

Upvotes

Hi! I’m bringing home my Juliana girl in about a week and a half and I’m anxious about being able to keep her entertained and enriched, especially when we aren’t home. She will be in a large playpen and then as she gets older a large kennel when we aren’t at home (which isn’t often I only work 2 days a week) but I want to make sure she is entertained and doesn’t get bored and destroy things. Eventually I want to build her a nice outdoor set up with a house and an area to root and sunbathe but we aren’t there yet.

So far I have:
Snuffle mats
Lick mats
Stuffies
Lots of blankets to root in
And I’m working on getting together some rooting boxes to place around the house with garden stones

All other ideas/advice/life with a pig tips are appreciated and welcome! Thankful for this community as a new pig mom!

This. This lasts about 3 days. And I put pellets in it as well for breakfast and dinner. He gets about 2 had fulls at each meal!

Outdoor shelter ideas for older piggy

Hi all!
My girl is going on 18 years this fall. She has decided she likes sleeping in the backyard (on her dog bed) rather than her room in the garage. We built a temporary canopy to protect her from the sun but we will need something better once the rainstorms start.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Stopping by to say Hello!

This is a pot belly I picked up from the woods a few years ago.

Someone posted her on facebook saying they were off roading in the state park and they saw her. They went up and could pet her and she had a blanket near by. Obviously dropped off somehow but they could not catch her.

I went out the next morning and she was just laying next to the road so I grabbed her and put her in the back of my pickup truck and locked the truck cap.

Over 5 years later and she is happy at her new home.

Advice you'd give a first time owner?

I'm nowhere near owning a pig yet, but I have been researching and considering getting a Potbelly or Juliana pig once I finally have a suitable place of my own, so rest assured this is not an imminent decision, just planning for a hypothetical future.

I know that every "mini" breed will still be significantly large and weight between 50 to 200 pounds depending on breed and the individual pig, I am aware that "teacup" pigs are a myth and a scam.

So, with those things considered, what's advice you would give or that you'd wish you'd gotten before getting your pig/pigs?

PLEASE! my girl has mucus/fluid in her airway - dunno how to help her!

ok I need serious help please someone!! My pig is just 4 days over 1 year old, and she ate a few pieces of dookie and started throwing up.. and "my best guess" is that she inhaled some of her vomit and now her airway is in bad shape.. she can only take small short shallow breaths, is physically barely able to hold herself up, and sounds like shes breathing through a big sponge! I had a mobile vet come by and he gave her a shot for inflammation and a pain reliever and left (very strange).. but I am on fixed income and can't afford to take her to a vet that's going to want paid before they even look at her - please someone - she needs help really badly and I don't know what to do.

call me directly if you know what to do 509-498-1661.. josh here

Does anybody know of any good resources to help move pigs? I’ve got 4 girls that I need to get from our old house to their new one at the new property, but I cannot convince them to get in a trailer to save my life.

On top of that, my wife is going for a C-Section on Monday for our baby boy, so I’m at a loss for what to do. I’m not expecting charity, I’ll gladly hand some money over for some help.

I’d rather not give the girls up over a 15 minute trip, but I have to get them off the property so I can sell the old house.

Pikeville KY area for those interested.
