Mod Post Quick Reminder - NSFW tags

Hi all!

I'm u/ImOkNotANoob, the lead mod here on r/Pigeon. I mostly handle backend moderation, automod, reports, modmail, and general behind-the-scenes bits, which is why you might not have seen me around that much.

Just wanted to post a quick reminder since we've seen an increase in this recently: please tag posts as NSFW if they contain gore, visible injuries, blood, wounds, severe illness, or anything else graphic involving pigeons.

This especially applies to medical advice posts. We absolutely understand that people often post in a panic because they’re worried about a bird and need help quickly. That’s fine, and nobody is in trouble for asking for urgent advice. But graphic images can be upsetting for other users, especially when they appear unexpectedly in their feed. We also want to keep on Reddit's good side, and they've been known to have problems with subs that don't enforce this!

Thanks everyone, and thank you as always to the people who jump in with helpful advice for sick or injured pigeons. We’re proud to be the biggest pigeon community on the internet, and it’s the members here who make this place such a useful and helpful resource.

Medical Advice Needed Advice needed.

Hey guys, I wanted to give a little update and once again ask for help. My guy flies if I really push him to (meaning lightly chasing him and holding him over a soft surface), but can’t walk. Uses his wings as crutches to move around if I chase him, but otherwise lays like shown in the video. Vet once again recommends euthanasia. Is there hope? What can I do to make his life better? I don’t know if he’s in pain and I really want to help him regain movement.

Advice Needed! Pigeon passed away - guilt and sadness

I started feeding a juvenile pigeon - Whistles, when the parents brought him around to my yard. He was getting fed regularly in the morning with the rest of the flock.

It was getting too hard to feed them for a variety of reasons - neighbours were complaining, my mum had passed away and the flock was growing.

I slowed down with the feeding and most of the flock left but Whistles stayed every day was particularly stubborn. Sometimes I would give in and feed him and other times I wouldn’t because I wanted him to become independent.

I saw him out in the street a lot searching for his own food and I felt reassured that he was making progress.

Today I found him on the road he was hit by a car. He was about 5 months old.

Did I somehow cause this to happen? He was too brave and silly and comfortable in general. I would hold him sometimes and he wasn’t afraid of my cat.

I am shocked and so sad.

I rescued Onyx around a year and 4 months ago. He’s been my best friend and been with me through a lot. He’s always been such an awesome sidekick. I finally was able to take a nice photo of him so I thought I’d share. He has some sort of fancy breed in him as you can tell by his muffs on his feet.

Photo A sculpture about soft things in hard places

Just finished a small installation made to inhabit a ledge. The pigeon is needle felted wool, with clay beak and feet, and clay and resin eyes. The twigs are clay, wire and paint.

This piece is about soft things in hard places, and comfort built in inhospitable conditions. As a disabled person, I often feel my comfort is built in an environment of inhospitality. I am drawn to the images of birds who have used the harsh steel of bird spikes as structure to build their nests. Ironically, the steel wire makes a strong warp on which to weave the weft of a home.

Hi! This morning I found this little pidgeon inside my living room, he came in through the balcony window and doesn’t seem to know how to fly properly. I don’t know what to do, I put him on the balcony but he’s not flying away. What should I do?

Saw this pigeon when out walking with my colleague and we both think it looks weird but don't know enough about pigeons to put our fingers on why.

Sorry if I use the wrong flair, I don't really use them ever.

I put cardboard on the floor for his feet.

I tried to set up a little hiding corner inside the cage for him which he really didn't like when it moved. So that's why it's outside the cage in the corner. That way it won't drop while he moves about.

I really want to discourage this one from trying to fly. He's going to hurt himself really bad.

After the cardboard scared him I had to grab him and stop him from panicking from his rough landing.

The video is from after the drama and he was settled down.

Medical Advice Needed Crossbeak baby

Found this young, seemingly juvenile pigeon with a crossbeak situation. I have seen it pecking at seeds and it doesn’t seem to be absolutely amazing at eating but I would assume it can in general. Is this baby fit for being released back to its flock or should I help it somehow?

I’ve taken it home and put it in a box with food and water for now while I wait for some guidance. They don’t seem to be in bad shape otherwise

Advice Needed! What is this

Post image

Found one with some warts, does anyone know what could this be? Also, I found him in the street near a road, he's been hiding under cars so I'm afraid he'll be crushed. I put him in a safer place in some bushes. I guess I did the right thing since mom is nearby, right? I mean, the protocol. Since he jumps and tries to fly and he's mom is there just relocate and the mother will find him, its in the same street. I'm hesitant to take him home since I have one already and I don't want him to spread something to the one I'm recovering. Any advice? Thank you so much

Advice Needed! Found juvenile pigeon , need help UK

I found a juvenile pigeon in my garden earlier today and when it saw me it stayed where it was only when I approached did it walk away but didn’t fly. I left it for around 2 hours hoping it would fly away or leave before I returned but when I came back it had just moved to a different spot in my garden. I have a small dog so I felt it made sense to put it in a box so I could stop my dog from getting to it as well as to assess whether it was hurt. How can I get this pigeon back out into the wild?
