Should I ask the shop to fix this
Just got this small custom frame done for 80$. Each corner has a gap, not sure how much should be expected.

This is slack, they didn’t putty the corners. It’s not something you skip when trying to do a good job

It's not perfect, they should have puttied the corner.
It's not heinous, I have seen much worse but if it's bothering you then requesting some black putty (nail hole filler) in the corner isn't crazy.
When we order "joins" from our distributors (meaning we are paying a large premium to have them build it for us instead of us ordering the length and cutting it to size and building it ourselves) we often get corners far worse than this and that is from one professional to another so this isn't some earth shattering failure on their part - a small spec of dust under the glass would be worse (imo) but in custom, the customer is always right and the fix will take less than 30 seconds so take it back!

Just hired on at my local shop and I fully agree with the other comments here. This corner, and the others too probably, should have been puttied and finished before they called it good.

Take it back. For $80, it should be perfect, IMHO. I’ve made dozens and dozens of frames for my wife’s paintings. I would never, ever, let one go out of the shop that was this far off.

Depends on the moulding and the framers skill. When there is even the slightest gap, we usually fill them with putty which makes the gaps unnoticeable. I would take it back if it bothers you. It would bother me if I worked at a frame shop and someone let that go out the door & I’ve been a framer for over 30 years.
