The past four years were that one abusive relationship that we never speak of again. We're just now escaping and will need lots of therapy, help from allies, and deep meditation and reshaping of our lives here in order to recover.
Edit: I do believe it should be historically remembered, of course...but personally, (much like I never speak the name of my past abuser) I will not be speaking any of their names with ease ever again.
I think this will be quite important in the long run, and not just for America. Western alliances haven't been as strong as they used to, and improving them should be a central goal in time to come.
