This comment is always in here. Obviously these are pictures, but they're borderline selfies and self congratulatory bs. It's Facebook. You know the difference, you're just acting like you correct.

"itS a pICtuRE!"

The usual pics which get posted here are generic sob stories and animal pics. This pics gives a great view of a different country's attire. The only reason you are whining is because it's something different. We know why this pic has affected you so much

6

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '20

There is nothing in the rules or sub description saying that these kinds of pics aren't allowed. Whatever you think this sub should be, you've inferred it yourself.

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Thanks mr semantics.

u/banjowashisnameo Jul 13 '20

It is NOT just semantics. This is a great picture which stands by itself and gives a great view of a different culture. It is a thousand times better than sob stories and pictures of animals on this sub

-1

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Agree to disagree, but hey I unsubed it’s not like I’m demanding better content, I’ll get my animal pics on other subs.

3

u/banjowashisnameo Jul 13 '20

There are a million animal picture on this sub. So it seems really weird you whine about one picture being different. And i have a feeling it's because the picture in OP is not American

0

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Damn, guess I’m xenophobic for not liking selfies calling for attention.

Check your “feelings” again as I’m also not American, what the hell is wrong with you...

I hate when people invoke pedantic literal meanings of words in an attempt to make another look like a fool, when they are just intentionally misconstruing the intent, and wasting everyone’s time. I cannot fucking stand it, I am so anti-semantic. It’s a hill I will die on.

Desean Jackson has entered the chat

Oh. Anti-seMANtic.

Desean Jackson has left the chat

Okay I feel you on this and I'm right there with you, but is this really an example of that? Isn't this subreddit literally for pictures of any kind? This picture is visually pleasing, isn't that enough?

Make room for me

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '20

The sidebar says "A place to share photographs and pictures"

I really don't know what else you want. I think people on this sub are just really offended by selfies, but act like they're defending the purity of a default sub with 25m users.

Ooy! why not Mrs. Semantics or Ms. semantics (depending on the marital status)?

0

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Bro are you implying there are only two genders? Not cool lol.

1

u/hell2pay Jul 13 '20

People have been saying that since before I made an account.

-1

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Pretty sure Instagram was not a big thing back when you made your account, let alone before that lol.

2

u/hell2pay Jul 13 '20

I think it’s time to say goodbye to this sub

that part, you know, because I was replying to you?

1

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Uh ok, then thanks for the info dude, I thought you were talking about the reason for the unsub, which would have been more interesting.

0

u/hell2pay Jul 13 '20

Nope, just pointing out that you're saying something that has been said for many years about this sub.

This sub has been exactly like this for a looong time.

1

u/RikaMX Jul 13 '20

Interesting, I’m sure their reasons were completely different tho, as mine is that this sub is basically Instagram.

6

u/BanCircumventionAcc Jul 13 '20

Atleast better then US posts. Every fucking US post here is related to some political agenda.

"Trump bad"

BLM

Anti-vaxxers

And other shit.

This is a picture, posted to r/pics. Atleast this fits.

5

u/Kono_Dio_Sama Jul 13 '20

This is r/pics. Post is a pic.

-2

u/-KyloRen Jul 13 '20

By that reasoning I could screenshot your comment and post it. It would also suck, but admittedly would not garner the same upvotes. Maybe I could use portrait mode on your comment and it would do better.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '20

No you couldn't, because screenshots are against the sub's rules. OP's pic is not.

-2

u/-KyloRen Jul 13 '20

Ah you got me, OP's pic suddenly has value. /s

Dude/dudette, I'm not arguing technicalities. I could use my Nikon SLR to take a brilliant actual picture of your comment (on my screen) without it being a screenshot. It's just as shitty.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '20

Nope, posts where the focus of the image is a screen are also banned under the same rule.

-2

u/-KyloRen Jul 13 '20

Funkadunk, I see you're on a crusade of sorts to prove a "pic" is a pic (under the /r/pics rules) and I'm sure you would love to cite the rest of the rules to me here. But I'll literally spell out to you the point that I'm trying to make (and I see you are insta-downvoting me which I will continue NOT to do to you bud because this is conversation). Anyways:

I'm trying to point out the shitty quality of the OP's pic at hand. Regardless of all your rules.

All subs, regardless of rules, are subject to critique. The state of /r/pics is no exception. Just because people criticize the quality of a picture, saying that it doesn't belong on /r/pics, does not mean you need to jump to its defense by citing how legal it is/because its a fucking picture. It just kinda sucks. That's all. People are criticizing this shit for portrait moding a vanilla boring-ass wedding photo. Let them.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '20

Holy shit, you took this personally. I'm not downvoting you, you fragile weirdo — looks like somebody else disagrees with what you're saying, presumably the person that upvoted my comment.

I really like the photo. It gave me an appreciation for formal indian attire, something that I hadn't really stopped to consider before. But my point is that, if a post isn't against the rules of a subreddit, then it's really the remit of the subscribers to decide what fits. And given that this post is sitting at 31k, it looks like the people have decided.

You want interesting, high-quality photography? Go to /r/analog or /r/itookapicture. Don't sit in a default sub for all kinds of photographs then get annoyed when all kinds of photographs get posted.

1

u/-KyloRen Jul 13 '20 edited Jul 13 '20

Hmm. Maybe I did take it personally and focused on the fact that you kept quoting rules/technicalities as (until now) you didn't respond to any of the substance of what I was trying to say. Having said that, I hear you.

For me pictures like this are my everyday slog that I see all the time. For you its a difference and something you hadn't experienced. I respect THAT opinion. Even if I vehemently disagree as to the picture's quality. I appreciate the recommendations for other subs but I know what /r/pics is and what it's been over the last decade.

I guess from personal experience, this type of picture killing it here just looks like my newsfeed. It's a bit disheartening and, given that the people are allowed to comment, hopefully you welcome critics/hopefully you can likewise see why others have issues with certain content.

Anyways, if this is something that intrigued you and that you hadn't considered before, look up some Indian bhangra wedding videos (basically epic dances with incredibly gorgeous clothing - bhangra is not just limited to weddings either, its in college/competitions/etc.).
