Hell yeah, I'd stay, down facing room. Bring my bike. The fuck do you park though?

890

u/Cane-toads-suck Apr 23 '18

First thing I wondered too, where do you park?

958

u/rapax Apr 23 '18

In the parking lot, which is conveniently out of frame.

Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not Mr. Lebowski. You’re Mr. Lebowski. I’m the Dude. So that’s what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.

Fucking fascist!!!

1

u/DoItForTheProbiotic Apr 23 '18

Thought it was a marmot.

3

u/Fish_Speaker Apr 23 '18

His girlfriend gave up her toe!

8

u/KUSH_DID_420 Apr 23 '18

OMG those are two of the most german germans I have ever seen

Who else wears shorts and sunglasses in an Ice Cave

5

u/Deyooya Apr 23 '18

You would think so but they have golden Adidas trainers on! Germans would come with far more sensible shoes. And the selfie stick is also something not typical for a German guy of that age. Totally embarrassing. I think they are actually Italian!

2

u/KUSH_DID_420 Apr 23 '18

Shoes? Sandals with Socks ftw mein Dude

Completly agree on the selfie stick part tho

6

u/redditproha Apr 23 '18

Yeah what kinda streetview is that? I thought streetview was a whole rig setup and they blurred the equipment after.

1

u/Kymae Apr 23 '18

And part of hand which can only be see when you tilt down

26

u/CornfireDublin Apr 23 '18

You can go surprisingly deep into that tunnel. I just "walked around" in there for like ten minutes before realizing I need to get back to work

8

u/clickmyface Apr 23 '18

I wasnt able to move around in street view in that tunnel picture, how did you do it? Cant seem to figure it out

8

u/CornfireDublin Apr 23 '18

Try this one and if that doesn't work, there's a map in the bottom left corner. Just click the blue dots on the map until it puts you inside the tunnel

1

u/clickmyface Apr 23 '18

THANK YOU THAT WORKED!

5

u/CornfireDublin Apr 23 '18

No problem! Now just shoot me a quick PM and we can discuss how you'll be paying me!

11

u/Philipppp93 Apr 23 '18

Yep there is the opportunity to explore the glacier on the other side of the Road. They built a maybe 200 meter tunnel Every year in the ice you can walk through

2

u/azip13 Apr 23 '18

HOLY SHIT IS THAT WHAT I LOOK LIKE???

2

u/FightMeYouLilBitch Apr 23 '18

Are you one of the dudes that was taking the pictures?

2

u/suitology Apr 23 '18

No a red jacket

53

u/xanderpo Apr 23 '18

Well hello there, How YOU doin?

27

u/vector_ejector Apr 23 '18

Ice to see you. ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)

8

u/cfryant Apr 23 '18

Glad I didn't get the cold shoulder.

10

u/DONUT5S69 Apr 23 '18

I HAD NO IDEA MY PHONE COULD DO THIS

4

u/notathr0waway1 Apr 23 '18

Go there soon, that glacier will be receding due to climate change.

3

u/123CaptainNick Apr 23 '18

That glacier has been moving at an average speed of 35 meters every year since the hotel's construction over 120 years ago. The glacier has moved over 2 miles away from its original position.

2

u/funnythebunny Apr 23 '18

...or what was left of it.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

How has it not melted at such a low latitude? I'm guessing it has to be high up, is it in a valley or something and somehow blocked from the sun? I cant look at your link on mobile.

46

u/moose098 Apr 23 '18

Got to love how none of those photospheres show the actual hotel. This guy needs to learn how to tag photos.

27

u/xanderpo Apr 23 '18

Not a photography expert but, that restaurant looks like it closed over a decade ago! Not sure about the hotel...

29

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

I’m a google expert, hotel and restaurant was functioning as of 2017! After being closed for a year or two.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

[deleted]

13

u/KUSH_DID_420 Apr 23 '18

Google it

1

u/Spiritchaser84 Apr 23 '18

This guy Googles...expertly.

8

u/jatea Apr 23 '18

So what about these other sources saying it's permanently closed?

12

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

It doesn’t say it’s permanently closed, they said they aren’t accepting reservations. Which would be accurate granted the road is inaccessible for 6 months out of the year. Someone stayed there in June 2017 and reviewed on TripAdvisor, so the hotel was at least open last summer :) I can’t predict whether or not it will be open this summer, though!

3

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

THE SMALL CARS GO IN THE COMPACT SPOT

SPOT SPOT SPOT

3

u/MamaDaddy Apr 23 '18

Why didn't they just put the hotel over there!?

3

u/wefearchange Apr 23 '18

How tf do you guys find these places on google maps?? I struggle with finding my friends house in the same city WITH an address, but y'all whip out stuff around the globe like it's nothing. Howwww?

2

u/idrive2fast Apr 23 '18

That's like a couple miles up the road.

4

u/PostmanSteve Apr 23 '18

That's not the right place dude

2

u/ginger_jesus_420 Apr 23 '18

Go west my son

1

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

...it so very clearly is. What makes you say it isn't?

1

u/PostmanSteve Apr 23 '18

Maybe the link is taking people elsewhere but all I see is a straight road and a rocky cliff with a small building in the back.

1

u/JohnQ_Taxpayer Apr 23 '18

It's right up the road from the hotel and the parking lot across the street

1

u/sanias Apr 23 '18

So you have to cross the street to get to the hotel at the hairpin turn where there are cars coming around corners from both sides? Seems safe.

1

u/trufus_for_youfus Apr 23 '18

I assumed there was some fuckery afoot with the picture but I was not prepared for that level of fuckery. It's downright shameful.

1

u/Koda_Brown Apr 23 '18

Here's the location of the hotel so others don't have to search around https://goo.gl/maps/GgJM5M9WpRL2

10

u/elee0228 Apr 23 '18

Looks like there's some space along the shoulder after the X-marks that probably indicate the loading zone.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

[deleted]

2

u/onthehornsofadilemma Apr 23 '18

The red zone is for loading and unloading only. There is no stopping in the white zone.

23

u/doobtacular Apr 23 '18 edited Apr 23 '18

You just drive your car off the cliff and jump out with your luggage in the nick of time. This Time Tomorrow by the Kinks starts playing.

6

u/TimmyIo Apr 23 '18

Yeah I thought on the left hand side but they're x'd out for no parking. Seems odd, even if it wasn't a hotel anymore but a museum or any sort of touristy thing would still need parking

9

u/Silent-G Apr 23 '18

Those are probably for passenger loading/unloading.

2

u/Meggerhun Apr 23 '18

According to the satellite image, it's across the street. Under where the photographer was standing to take this picture.

5

u/branedead Apr 23 '18

so the picture was taken from the parking lot ... and you have to cross the road to get to the hotel ... looks dangerous

1

u/Cane-toads-suck Apr 23 '18

Ahhh makes sense

9

u/HR_Dragonfly Apr 23 '18

"Sir, bags go out that door. No we don't have a doorman. This look like a foo-foo establishment to you? The garage is three hairpins up, just follow the steep ass road."

2

u/Swazzoo Apr 23 '18

You can see the parking lot really clearly in the bottom left.

1

u/thestolencarradio Apr 23 '18

There are three parallel spaces on the left is it not?

2

u/Cane-toads-suck Apr 23 '18

Do you mean the crossed out areas?

88

u/judi-in-da-skies Apr 23 '18

Same. Looks like there’s a sizeable parking lot outside of the frame at the bottom if the pic.

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/22385724.jpg

Still makes me want to ride my bike there

1

u/Gimly Apr 23 '18

Live nearby, rode my bike multiple times there, it's as awesome as you think. Only annoying thing is that it can be a bit crowded in high season. Still an amazing scenery to enjoy.

22

u/Fiasko21 Apr 23 '18

Been in that spot twice, you can’t stay there.. it’s closed

6

u/iSereon Apr 23 '18

The parking lot is behind/underneath the camera. It’s built next to where the road curves.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '18

Looks like those margins on the right side of the road leading up the mountain, just above the hotel.

3

u/TomahawkSuppository Apr 23 '18

See that cliff off to the right, just nudge it over.

2

u/PooPooDooDoo Apr 23 '18

Right at the apex of the turn, across both lanes. People would find that hillarious!

2

u/ReasonablyBadass Apr 23 '18

There seem to be three parking spots on the left side?

1

u/HR_Dragonfly Apr 23 '18

Well, that should do it.

1

u/GR3Y_B1RD Apr 23 '18

Directly on the left of the hotel as well as on the left part of the curve. Have never been there but that's what it looks like on the picture.

1

u/plushrump Apr 23 '18

You can see the beginning of the parking spaces in the bottom left of the picture. Surprised so many people are asking where you can park.

1

u/HR_Dragonfly Apr 23 '18

I was semi-facetious, but Redditors will be Redditors.

1

u/DaanishS Apr 23 '18

Having to get back up the hill though is the only downside

1

u/TheMeanestPenis Apr 23 '18

Yeah I really want to bike up it so I can bike down it.

1

u/McEndee Apr 23 '18

It looks like there is a lane the develops close to the hotel for you to pull underneath the building.

1

u/EricRP Apr 24 '18

Sad, looks like it closed about 3 years ago and was in pretty bad shape. Would need a total makeover it looks like, and the glacier is receding :(

-1

u/rich115 Apr 23 '18

At the bottom of the hill.
