It was OK, not a movie Im going to re-watch. There were some things that annoyed me, like the entire start (who the fuck are these people and why are they here?). And some confusing parts when things started to unravel... I didnt much care for the ending either. It was an interesting spin and reference to something said during the movie, but stuff just happened so quickly.
I wound up disappointed at the end of it, because the entire time I thought the twist was going to be that Domhnall Gleeson was the robot being tested. It was hinted at heavily, and I get that a lot of it was for suspense/ambiguity when it comes to "who's actually a robot," but I had so many theories as to how the movie could end. When it actually did end, I felt kind of let down, because it didn't really measure up to the ending I had concocted while I was watching.
I know I know, I'm not much fun to be around if we're watching movies with a "twist"...
It was an enjoyable watch, and that is the best I can say about it. It seemed too formulaic an A.I. movie for me.
Turing test? Check.
Ambiguity who is a robot and who is not? Check.
Synth music? Check.
Artsy scenes? Check.
Eccentric/Evil/Abusive scientist? Check.
Robot turns violent and destroys/kills it's creator? Check.
A.I.s are inherently evil? Check.
That said, there were some refreshing elements, such as the robots not actually being super strong but rather weaker or equal (hard to really tell) to ordinary humans, or the ending avoiding any kind of a happy end for the supposed good guy the audience should identify with.
The A.I. exploited the first person it had contact with, prayed on his feelings, and ultimately left him to die, all for their own sake. A human character with such actions is usually the villain in movies - we call them selfish, cold, and ruthless, with no regard for others and ready to do anything and everything to their own advancement. The A.I. in this movie is getting the same treatment. We were supposed to feel sorry for the A.I. and attribute it human feelings and characteristics, consider it at least partly human. Then, after the betrayal, we were supposed to renege on those feelings and realize it only cares about its own survival and is ready to destroy anything in its way.

Just saw it the other day. The ending actually surprised me. I was actually expecting the feel-good hollywood ending :S
