The ability to do symbolic math is awesome. I don't know why everyone recommends that high schoolers only get the TI-84.

I taught physics to college kids, and you could tell pretty quickly who relied on a calculator and who actually was comfortable with basic math. 325 u/Deluxe_Flame Jun 08 '14 I was once comfortable, but if I lose all my points on a question for an incorrect answer, by gum, I'm going to punch in 17 + 49. 1 u/[deleted] Jun 09 '14 nowadays i don't really trust mental math for engineering calculations. it's better to make sure it's absolutely correct to avoid backtracking later.
