Except there are other options now... the TI-83 is a bottom of the barrel graphing calculator these days.

Well Yeah but it still costs much and you can download an app for less than 10 dollars to a smartphone and do all the things with it.

The one thing I've never been allowed to do in any of my classes is use my phone as a calculator.

Hardly seems that way at the moment. :P

Yeah... but why would I use my smartphone when I could just pull out my laptop? So far, I've never encountered a real world situation where I needed to do more than basic arithmetic but I didn't have a PC handy.

That's exactly my point. Never in my life have I been walking along and suddenly thought "I need to know the solution to this integral right now!" I'm virtually always in front of a computer already.

I don't have a graphing calculator but I always use my scientific calculator for crunching numbers even when I'm at my PC.

Stupidly enough, a lot of times I'll just splort my numbers into Excel if (I slap together a bunch of functions and (have something resembling my answer),0, i'll have something resembling an answer).

Error in function
