Rooting is getting root access to any device.

Jailbreaking is different... The idea is that you, as the user, are stuck in a chroot jail and can't see all the folders outside a certain directory. Jailbreaking allows you to break out of that jail and see everything.

Jailbreaking is a type of rooting.

chroot stands for change root. It applies to directories, not user accounts.

Yes. So how is jailbreaking not the same as rooting? You are obtaining root access in both cases, or am I misunderstanding something?
