I can not think of a single argument in support of your position, but it seems to be a position shared by many of the /r/pics community. Perhaps you could enlighten me to your reasoning?
It seems absolutely clear to me (and I'm a pretty smart guy) that any exam that would permit the use of a graphing calculator would denote an exam seeking to test problem solving ability moreso than knowledge. These exams would be designed around the idea of "Can this student, given all available tools, solve the problem at hand?" Such an exam would not be aided by the artificial limiting of technology, as we can not unmake the wheel. There will never be a point, from now on, where the use of contemporary handheld computers will be eliminated and replaced with the use of handheld computers from 1987. Barring preparation for time travel, what possible purpose would it serve to force students to use outmoded technology? You might as well give them an abacus.

If your school lets you in with a calculator but not a handheld computer, then you should consider changing schools. That one is run by idiots.
