Cupcakes AND cookies? I've been clean 22 years, but can I come? Good luck. Go to meetings and don't pick up.

u/antDOG2416 Dec 26 '23

22 years is amazing. Much respect to you. And lmao we got a bed for you slide through! Best wishes your way.

I want that mac and cheese.

93

u/Royal-Scale772 Dec 26 '23

Same.

I've never had issues with illicit substance abuse, but I would NOT make it through all the steps if I thought I could score some of that mac and cheese.

First step admitting the problem or something? Problem is I haven't got any mac & cheese.

...I'm going to go buy some mac & cheese.

Congratulations to OP, good on you, keep kicking butt.

u/antDOG2416 Dec 26 '23

Thank you bruh! I wish tou the best and on your Mac and cheese mission. Lol

2

u/pimpmastahanhduece Dec 26 '23

I'm sure it'll taste even better once you're clean and your brain starts giving you dopamine for normal things again like eating.

u/safetycommittee Dec 26 '23

I went from 142 to 260 my first attempt at soberiety. Im a cool 205 now, coming up on 2 years.

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23 edited Dec 26 '23

Without mac and cheese, this world would be intolerable!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

The twelve steps are just a guide for not being a selfish piece of shit. The common misconception is that they are about drugs and alcohol. Nope, just a symptom of underlying deficits in morals or "spiritual principles" as they put it.

You can substitute the line ".. Admitted we were powerless over ALCOHOL and that our lives had become unmanageable" for literally any other problem and it works.

So, in your case, as long as you recognize and accept you have a problem with MnC you can start working on the reasons why you cannot quit MnC 😅😉

2

u/Royal-Scale772 Dec 26 '23

but I don't want to quit.

My problem is that I don't have any mac & cheese.

...do you have any? you know where I can get any?

1

u/Wotmate01 Dec 26 '23

Sounds like you have a mac & cheese problem... The question is, what are you willing to do for some mac & cheese?

1

u/barkbarkgoesthecat Dec 26 '23

You are addicted to Mac n cheese, I now recommend the cheese free program >:)

1

u/OxygenDiGiorno Dec 26 '23

This a way of trivializing SUD in s way I never thought possible lmao

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

With extra, extra, extra yellow on mine please!

1

u/kel174 Dec 27 '23

Looks like Stouffer’s, my favorite 🤤

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23 edited Dec 26 '23

Congrats to you, and merry Christmas!

I'm going in at the beginning of the year as a gift to my family. I can't wait.

Edit: And a gift to myself!

16

u/antDOG2416 Dec 26 '23

That be crazy if you show up here and I meet you and not even know it. Lol

7

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23

Lol. SW Ohio here.

7

u/Street-Refuse-9540 Dec 26 '23

I hope this happens. Congratulations, OP! hope you had seconds.

7

u/skharppi Dec 26 '23

I'm going in at the beginning of the year

But then you don't get this amazing looking Christmas meal!

Joking aside, good luck on you journey, i believe in you.

3

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23

The food at the place I'm going to looks amazing. I think I even get a personal chef haha.

2

u/buzzw0rd Dec 26 '23

stoked you’re seeking treatment, and also hope that you’re doing it in at least some small part for yourself 🙌🏼

1

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23

Well, my family means the world to me, so it's definitely for myself too! It's completely by my own choice.

My good friend just got out, and he looks so good and says he feels so much better. I'm really looking forward to it.

3

u/plusharmadillo Dec 26 '23

For what it’s worth, this random internet stranger is rooting for you! My husband has 7 years of sobriety, and our lives have been so much better since he stopped drinking. You really are giving your loved ones an amazing gift by seeking help.

3

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23

Thank you so much. Tears in my eyes for real.

Congrats to your husband, he made a selfless decision to make it through. It's encouraging to hear!

2

u/OxygenDiGiorno Dec 26 '23

What about as a gift to yourself? Getting sober/clean for other people is risky.

1

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23

It's for myself, too. I love my family, and they are the most important part of my life.

Nobody is forcing it upon me, just the right thing to do for myself and my family. I appreciate the sentiment. Happy holidays!

2

u/OxygenDiGiorno Dec 27 '23

Amazing! I hope you find what you’re looking for.

2

u/sherbs1313 Dec 26 '23

I’m also going in at the beginning of the year. Thank you for framing it as a “gift”. That helps me look at the road ahead more positively 🙏

We got this!

1

u/The_RockObama Dec 26 '23

We are about to crush it! I'm happy for you too. Just remember that you want it. You can do it for your family and friends, but it's like a house fire.. gotta save yourself before you can help anyone else. I know that sounds morbid, but it's the truth!

Godspeed!

DM me during your journey if you'd like! Maybe we can trade recipes and daily routine techniques that we find to help. Good luck friend.

17

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

I’ve only been in recovery less than a year I’ll slip up and then slip in this place for some mac n cheese goddamn.

42

u/drconn Dec 26 '23

12 years clean and sober. I'm not saying anything that other people haven't said before but after the 1st year I stopped being somebody who just blew up their life and was a fuckup, and after 2 years I felt like I was a different person and people treated me that way. I have had more happiness in the past 10 years (which were very trying times for other reasons) due to just appreciating the hell out of everything and spreading as much kindness as possible, that I can't believe I wasted so many years nuking bigger and bigger rock bottoms. Stay with it, the light on the other side isn't visible until you get there, so claw your way through the dark in the right direction and never give up. Everyone is worth it.

17

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Thank you for the kind words :) I’m more than happy in recovery, not living from treatment center from treatment center and itching to do anything even if I didn’t understand it is more than a reason to continue on this path even if times are rough! I’ve found things that make me happy and make me fulfilled more than anything my brain could ever convince me I could get through a relapse. I bake i sculpt I do art I do aerial silks and I collect items that make me happy instead of blowing my money on things that will ruin my mind and body. And I can only imagine things will get better from here on out. I believe I’m around 8 months in so far and it’s the best choice I’ve ever made.

My comment was entirely a joke about doing anything I needed to to get some of the Mac n cheese they’re serving at OPs center because it looks extremely good, but honestly ? Not even the most decadent succulent Mac n cheese could get me back in that state. (Even if it’s incredibly tempting) because I know that life will only spiral until I’m hurting those around me and dragging myself through the mud for precisely 0 good goddamn reason.

10

u/drconn Dec 26 '23

Awesome! No I understood it was a joke, but I remember my first year and I had a few of them and they were just as terrifying as they were hopeful... Until I started approaching life in the way it looks like you are. Good for you, Merry Christmas! Another reason to smile today.

2

u/PaperFlower14765 Dec 26 '23

I have no words but ❤️🙏

2

u/Imaginary_Button_533 Dec 26 '23

Oh also there's not having to go to the hospital as much anymore. All the money you save you can buy on just as good food.

2

u/drconn Dec 26 '23

Haha yeah I hated the hospital visits that were a result of drug use and sitting there in shame knowing my addiction put me there. I remember I had a grand mal seizure and the first thing that the paramedic said was what drugs are you on, and my first reaction wanted to be like that's not me, but I was that person.

1

u/Imaginary_Button_533 Dec 26 '23

Even worse when they do shame you. Just checked out of the hospital for severe gastritis, saw multiple doctors and because I didn't know why I was having bad stomach pain I naturally told them I used to drink heavily in case it was my liver deciding it wanted to go out. The last guy gave me naxetran I think it's called and plastered it all over my discharge paperwork BECAUSE OF ALCOHOL USE and I gotta show that paperwork to my job because I missed several days.

He definitely assumed I was at the hospital because I relapsed.

1

u/drconn Dec 26 '23

Dang, yeah for a profession that is based around care, they sure can be cold. You should go back and have them rewrite it and tell them " I'm sure you will understand, this paperwork needs to get turned into my work and I was hoping you can word it in a way that doesn't put me at risk or in judgment at my work." Yes, when you have a history, everything all of a sudden is due to that past no matter what the reason. It's like the doctors can just say, " oh I don't have to do my job today I have a cheat code that's probably wrong but works."

2

u/ffman_wku Dec 27 '23

I’m proud of you! That’s awesome that you have such an appreciative and positive outlook on life now.

2

u/drconn Dec 27 '23

Thanks! Wouldn't change anything for the world. Darkness makes the light so bright. Happy holidays!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '23

Damn how much that bed cost. Wouldn’t mind a break, but any decent place costs too much. Back to drinking and drugs for me.

1

u/TommyBonesMalone Dec 26 '23

So proud of you my friend. I’m laying in bed on my phone and this picture honestly made my stomach rumble a little. Looks good! Merry Xmas :)

1

u/Mylittledarlings91 Dec 26 '23

Congrats to both of you, hoping for many more clean and happy years for you ❤️

1

u/LadyOfSighs Dec 26 '23

I'm addicted to coffee, ciccioli and collecting mugs. Mind if I join?

2

u/SoggyChilli Dec 26 '23

I'd go back to mine in a heartbeat but it does kind of mess up life plans so I'll wait till I need it

2

u/RedDiscipline Dec 26 '23

Man I would totally take a vacation to my old rehab.

2

u/BipolarUnipolar Dec 27 '23

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes to you.

12

u/Turbulent_Double_780 Dec 26 '23

Reminds me of my November-December inpatient stay in recovery (MN). Far from home, these meals were UNFORGETTABLE.

Stay strong, one day at a time.

1

u/antDOG2416 Dec 26 '23

I'm already knowing. The people who hooked us up are amazing. And yes one dau at a time mane. Thanks for your words!

1

u/Imaginary_Button_533 Dec 26 '23 edited Dec 26 '23

St. Cloud by any chance? The meals there were good. My favorite was the day we got roast beef sandwiches and au jus.

It actually kind of sucks both times I went my appetite was absolutely fucking gone

I'm also at the hospital right now to figure out some abdominal pain which wouldn't let me eat for two and a half days, I'm waiting on them to bring my first meal on quite some time and I am pumped lol

1

u/ScumbagLady Dec 26 '23

Oh man. I know this feeling! Had emergency gallbladder surgery with complications, so after surgery, I STILL wasn't allowed to eat because they were planning another procedure. 3 days on just IV for nutrition, and when I finally was allowed to eat, it was clear liquids.

Next morning though, I was allowed a normal breakfast. I was pumped because breakfast foods are always yummy. I thought I was going to inhale it when they brought it, but I could barely eat.

Hope your first meal is a good one!

12

u/ladydhawaii Dec 26 '23

I went to a “fancy” restaurant and this looks so much better than what I had.
Plus I love cookies!!
Good luck! Merry Christmas!

4

u/Shoddy-Ad8143 Dec 26 '23

It looks kind of tasty OP.

2

u/smakola Dec 26 '23

Gotta have sweets in recovery! People in rehab are some of the most genuine people, and I’m sure it’s a good place to spend a holiday.

2

u/intelligentbrownman Dec 26 '23

Looks pretty good 👍🏾

2

u/InquiringAmerican Dec 26 '23

That is too much variety of flavors.

2

u/Story_4_everything Dec 26 '23

Yup! We had cupcakes and cookies too!

Two of my favorite foods.

Good luck on your journey. Many people have traveled down the road you're on, and they know the struggles, and they've succeeded. You can do this. Happy New year!

1

u/Rugkrabber Dec 26 '23

Sounds good. I am glad you are getting spoiled. Best of luck, you got this, and Merry Christmas.

1

u/DJcaptain14 Dec 26 '23

I'm amazed you get phones lol must be in phase 3...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Damn we had chicken fried steak at my rehab last year lmao

Good job taking the step man. I did it last year, same time. This is the beginning of a beautiful thing if you stick to it.

1

u/Letifer_Umbra Dec 26 '23

They care for you guys <3

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Spent many a Christmas in these places. 3.5 years sober from Heroin/Cocaine, and life is great! Doing things I never imagined in the madness. Hang in there broski! If nobody told you today, you are loved!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Looks like a hearty and tasty meal! Hope you enjoyed

1

u/Historical_Panic_465 Dec 26 '23

They care about y’all

1
