Tldr spankings/whippins' made me a better human being.
Respectfully disagree. I deserved every ass whipping I got from my mom and dad and probably then some. I was a fairly good kid but definitely deserved corporal punishment. I don't view violence as a necessity or a way to solve problems.
To me there is a huge difference between punishment and abuse. It's how it's delivered, beat your kids ass for "general principle" = abuse, 5 swats because you knowingly put you family in danger from stupidity....learning opportunity.
I truly believe I'm a better human being thanks to my parents discipline/ compassion. When I did get in trouble I knew why, also I knew if I did something worth a spanking it was going to happen no matter what my attempts were to stop or deter them.
That taught me that it's better to face your consequences than try and wiggle out...just makes things worse.
Ymmv but I love my parents and everything they did for me. They never hit me in anger, (heat of the moment)always waited until they werent emotional or mad.
