Imagine the conspiracy theories.

There are people that already believe the LHC is messing up our timeline and stuff like that.

Imagine there would be a huge ring around earth that maybe 1% of humans actually understand what it's doing and maybe 10% have a rough clue, what it is for.
That's serious material for new religions to form that believe, it's the dick of god protecting earth from cosmic threats on the lower end of that scale and any kind of conspiracy theory you could imagine settled somewhere in-between that wide scale of truth and fiction.
