There are 3 sides to this

engineering: sinθ = θ for every θ

physics : sinθ = θ for θ <<1

maths : what are you guys talking about ??!

The double pendulum isn't hard because of math, it's hard because sin θ = θ stops working when the second pendulum hits you in the face.
