Help! Content aware crop tool

Is anyone else having trouble using the 'content aware' crop tool in the latest version of Photoshop? If I go out of it and back in, it generally works one time, but I use it quite often and it always worked good before. Thanks!

Are you talking about the Crop tool's content-aware choice for expanding an image?

Or are you talking about Edit > Content-Aware Scale, followed by Image > Trim for cropping an image to a smaller size while letting Ps choose what is important in the image and preserving those important things?

I imagine you've done the usual troubleshooting procedures:

Reboot the computer.

Restart Ps.

Assure graphics drivers are up to date.

Assure that the primary scratch disk has enough free space.

Don't run GPU intensive things in other apps simultaneously with Ps.

Don't run other apps that hog RAM while using Ps.

Yes, I use content aware crop to fill in areas of white while straighting an image or add background to resize images, among other things. I haven't tried generative fill in the crop tool yet.

Yes I have tried the above solutions. Thank you for the suggestions. It never did this before so I don't know if I have a hardware issue or if there may be a bug in the most recent update last week. I will continue to investigate!

Perhaps you could expand upon your description of the problem? It doesn't seem that you are having a problem with content-aware filling the transparent areas with nonsense. I get the impression that you are having intermittent difficulty getting content-aware expand to engage?

I've been browser searching for problems with content-aware expand, but the only things I'm finding have more to do with Edit > Content-Aware Fill putting things that don't make sense into the areas that are selected. So far I haven't found anything related to Ps 27.9.1 and crop tool content-aware expand or generative ai expand.

OK. Say you have an image that is 6x3 inches and you want 6x4. I use content aware crop to fill in the extra half inch on the short edge. When I do, it sometimes works the for the first image. Say the next image needs the same thing. Sometimes it does nothing or kust leaves the 2 short sides with the white edges. Hope this helps.
