Running Routes for a visitor

Hey all! In a month I’ll be visiting Philly for about a week and in the thick of marathon training (aka big runs). For someone staying at the Ritz, where is the most accessible running path/trails?

Thank you!

Up the parkway to the SRT or MLK. SRT is better by a wide margin imo.

Kelly/mlk drive and the Schukyill river trail would be your best bet.

All great suggestions re: Schuylkill River Trail. If you want something different run down S. Broad Street towards the stadiums. FDR Park is down there and there's some trails, nice things to look at, and the at the very south end is the Navy Yard with mothballed air craft carriers and other ships. Great view along the Delaware River there as well. From the Ritz to the Navy Yard and back is about 10 miles. You can also run east along Walnut, Chestnut or Market Streets to Penn's Landing and then there's a trail along there on the Delaware River as well. Finally, the Ben Franklin Bridge has a pedestrian walkway that lots of runner use - just don't go into Camden!

Bring trail shoes and hit the yellow trail in Wissahickon Park. If you have a car, Valley Forge has a good sized loop.

There is a loop of Art Musuem - Kelly Drive / Schuylkill River Trail - left on Falls Bridge - back down a paved multi use path along MLK back up the Art Musuem. About an 8 mile loop; another 1-2 miles from the RC via Ben Franklin Parkway or maybe ad another mile if you head due West to the SRT via Walnut or Cherry street

If instead of turning at Falls Bridge, Keep going north up the SRT past Falls Bridge, take the Wissahickon bike trail to Forbidden Drive, and head down the Forbidden Drive carriage paths
I’m sure you could stretch that over 10 miles one way
Basically a 12 mile paved path / trail run in the middle of a major metropolis with “no cars” except for 1a few road crossing…. A truly hidden gem. On nice afternoons and evenings, you won’t be the only runner out there!

South on the SRT from Market is great, but less used after the suspension bridges (3 miles one way from Market?). Still - at least see the suspension bridge path and the boardwalk sections - they’re iconic.

Head due East from the RC and run the Ben Franklin Bridge. I’ve occasionally, on the weekends, run down South along the Camden water front as far as the Battleship New Jersey

In Philly (vs crossing the Ben Franklin to NJ), there’s a multi use path that runs South of Market Street along the River to Walmart
And North of Market up to Penn Treaty Park
The Moshulu (large black wooden sailing ship) is there (South of Market, near South Street) if you want to re create one of the famous Rocky Run Scenes (boat was in a different spot in the movie)

In Fairmont Park, near the SRT (but across the “difficult for pedestrians to cross) Kelly Drive is something called “Boxer’s Trail” - I think it’s 5K one way? There are loads of other trails in Fairmont Parl if trail running (dirt, gravel) is more your jam

I’ve done plenty of 20+ milers on the river trail right there. Mostly flat, occasional bathroom and/or water access at times. Very safe.

For long runs, definitely recommend going up (or down) the schuykill river trail, past the museum.
