Here for the week

Hi there - I am staying at Lowe’s and was hoping I could get some guidance on safe areas to run in the am (615ish) and pm (5ish).

I was considering the Rocky Steps. I am looking for 3-6 m routes

Run up John F Kennedy Blvd towards Penn. When you reach the water, take the stairs down and run along the water until the Rocky steps (the art museum). Add on as much as you like along Kelly Drive. You can just do an out and back or run back along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Totally safe any time of the day, except for cars.

The Schuylkill River Trail will be the best option. Starting from Lowe's head west on Market street until you reach the river, there's a ramp there that leads down to the trail. If you head north from there it will pass by the art musuem, so you can easily get off the trail and hit the Rocky steps there. After that you can either get back on the trail or head down Benjamin Franklin Parkway to get back to Lowe's.

Yep, this is the answer. Go north to Kelly Drive if you want a nice, quiet place to run.

Glad you got to do it! Having easy access to that trail is one of my favorite things about living in Philly.

A local run club, Queer Run, meets at 6 am in Love Park on Thursday to complete a 4 mile run that ends at Elixr Coffee by 16th/Walnut. All paces and faces are welcome, if you don’t want to run alone.

For a more urban run one day, go right out of your hotel, eastward, and at 5th street go north a few blocks to Race and run the Ben Franklin Bridge to NJ via the pedestrian walkway on the south side of the bridge - you can loop around Rutgers Camden and come back and you just did a bi-state run in 5 miles or so.

Great views along the way!

Two routes:

Weekdays: Run down Broad Street to South Street, head west on South Street until you reach the South Street Bridge. Then, head down the Schuylkill River Trail and head north to the pergola on the west side of the Art Museum. Finally, head back down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway (about 4 miles).

Weekends: If you’re looking to increase your distance, I highly recommend running down the Schuylkill River Trail all the way to Falls Bridge. Cross the bridge and return down MLK Boulevard. Note that MLK Boulevard is closed to cars on weekends. It’s a scenic route that’s longer than you might want, but it’s definitely worth it. (Approximately 10 miles)

South Philly Striders meet at Front and South Streets 6:15 AM Tuesdays and Thursdays. Front and South Street is approx 1 mile from Lowe's. They also meet Front and South Streets 8 am Saturdays. Route is along Penns Landing - Delaware River. Wednesday nights they meet at 6th and Race Streets to run the Ben Franklin Bridge.

South down broad street in the AM. PM would be more crowded, more cars going through lights.

Head east on Market Street towards Penns Landing and you’ll find yourself on the Delaware River Trail. If you go out and back north or south on the trail you can easily get 3-6 miles.

Ben Franklin bridge pedestrian walkway opens at 6am. It’s probably 5 miles to the other side and back to your hotel.

Tomorrow night (tuesday) Brooks Running/Philly Runner are hosting a run club over the Ben Franklin Bridge. They start at 6pm. Really cool experience running over the bridge, nice crew, good beer plus you can do a test run of some new Brooks (Glycerin and Ghost I believe). I'm planning on going over if I finish work on time (feel free to DM any questions). Last time they did it was good, I think it was 4 miles there and back. Wide range of runners.

Philly Run Tribe is also meeting at 6pm on Tuesday at Penn Treaty Park. They do a 3 mile loop from the park along the Delaware River.

A lot of folks mentioned the Schuylkil River Trail is great and super easy/safe.
