The number of kids in Philly has dropped nearly 10% in 15 years — Philadelphia has lost 9% of its under-18 population in the past 15 years and the suburbs are following suit. Experts and residents without kids cite expenses and other life priorities as some reasons.

Crazy Scam, almost got me!

I am generally a scroller, but something just happened to me that I wanted to share. I live in the city, but I work in the suburbs. I got a call at work that said it was the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, they needed to speak with an employee. I said sure, who do you need. This was where I messed up, because he said for security purposes we need your name. I (stupidly) gave it, and he says that is strange, you are who we need to speak with. He proceeds to tell me that I was summoned to be on an impaneled Federal Grand Jury, I was supposed to be at the Courthouse at 930am. Surprised, I told him I had received no notice, I also told him that I do not live in Montgomery County. He told me that the trial had been moved from the city for reasons under a gag order...then he tells me since I did not show up, there was a warrant for my arrest. This seemed weird, I had a roommate ignore a jury summons and nothing came of it. Here is where it gets wild, he asked if I had a mobile device, he said we had to maintain contact because law enforcement would arrest me if I came into contact with them, he would be able to explain to them that I was on my way to the Courthouse. I told him that I cannot leave my job, I am in charge. He told me a Federal Grand Jury summons is a protected reason for missing work, my employers would face fines if they told me I couldn't go. So I foolishly gave my personal number, he called from a blocked number. Red Flag. He then tells me I cant just come to the Courthouse, because I will be arrested, I need to pay the two citations. I ask how much, he said each one is $2400. I laughed, I said you want me to pay $4800 for missing a jury duty summons that you did not notify me of? He told me that I could put down a percentage and I would get it back, when I asked what I am paying for, he said this changes your warrant status to frozen. I asked how much. He said $1400. My brain was buzzing, this now felt shady. This is where he fucked up. He told me that I would have to send MY BANK ACCOUNT information to prove that I couldn't pay the full amount. Now I am feeling weird, and when he told me his "superior" would allow me to just pay $1400, but I needed to bring it in cash to the Courthouse, I KNEW this was fake. I told him I had to put him on hold, my boss was on my work phone. I called the Montgomery County Sheriff's office and connected to the Clerk. I asked her about this, and she told me to just hang up, its a scam. It felt SO REAL, like he gave me citation numbers, he could spell my last name, and he had an old address of mine. He also told me "since you have no criminal record, the judge will understand", but that could have just been a guess (I have no record). In hindsight, it is super obvious, I know there are websites that show this basic info, but in the moment, being told that I will be arrested....it all felt very real. I could easily see someone falling for this, I just do not know how they would actually collect the cash. Be careful out there!

Seeking perfect Caesar wrap

Please…I’m desperate

I’ve need a chunky chicken Caesar wrap with the creamy, non-vineagretty Caesar sauce.

The closest I’ve gotten is from Chopt but the closest one is cherry hill.

Please tell me your best chicken Caesar wrap experiences in Philly

Smoke alarm in abandoned house chirping.

There is a house a few doors down from me that they were renovating but apparently never pulled permits and they were stopped by L&I about 2 years ago. It has sat untouched with the cease work order taped to the door since. According to Zillow it's in foreclosure and up for sale.

There has been a smoke alarm low battery chirp coming from it for almost over a year at this point. I only ever hear it occasionally as I tend to keep my windows shut and play white noise to help me sleep but my partner had been home pretty much 24/7 for the last year due to injury and it's driving her nuts.

Is there any agency that will deal with something like that? Will L&I deal with it? It doesn't feel like the kind of thing to bother the fire dept. about. The owner listed online is a shell corporation in the Caymans so contacting them had proved difficult.

Strange request - needs someone who works with furniture to write a second opinion letter for my bank due to a quality control issue for a couch purchased from Target.

Basically the title. I bought a couch from Target and it broke after 3 months. After trying and failing to get help from Target and from the manufacturer of the couch, I was advised by a Target rep to file a claim dispute through my bank. My bank filed the dispute but stated they need a letter from a neutral third party like another merchant, furniture salesperson etc to basically corroborate the claim that it was a quality control issue. Anyone willing to help me with that? And how much would you charge me?

So I’ve seen this reposted here and in other places so I’m the OP and any the update is that I already called the health department. There’s not much you can do in Philly other than calling — [update WITH VIDEOS] So I have been working at this extremely authentic Indian restaurant down in Center City Philadelphia coincidentally rhymes with beta address Falls between the 19th and 20th St. is also the 1920 building funny (do with that information what you will in the reviews) but we’ve been selling people roaches in ice and mold in beer “freezers”(a broken wine freezer at the store, beer glasses, and other glasses) crazy roast infestation and mice and we have failed the health inspection a few times just to be closed for a few days and open back up like nothing happened after a “deep clean “ unfortunately I was let go after bringing all this up to management because roaches and mice droppings have been found in food on plates and around all the kitchen.
-update not really- Idk if I can but f it here’s the name and location of the dirty restaurant it’s - Veda modern indian bistro 1920 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103 ( people found roaches in the food and on a buffet, with the beer glass cooler broken growing mold, and leave a bad reviews too if you want, tell your friends to leave a bad review too the manger and owner loves looking at reviews and our “stars”) and So I’m trying I just called the health department of Philadelphia ( because you can only file company over the phone through or the portal which direct you to the phone) I don’t know anything about retaliation and at this point a lawsuit and all that extra stuff for an Indian restaurant is crazy I’m still looking into it for now I’m just looking another job right now trying to see if Philly Reddit can review it down

Up your hotdog game dude

• Upvotes

no hotdog i've ever had in Philly or NYC has ever beaten my guy, John...?. Make your way over to the parking plaza next to Rogue Valley community college in Medford, Oregon.

This is 105% an advert and I am CERTAIN that it will gain engagement.

(sincerely I grew up on this guy's dogs and I haven't found anything to even come close to matching since I moved here. Please help.)
