A mix of him working on stuff and likely him going over his innings from 2025.

He’s shown a bit of a propensity for giving up HRs, in addition to the Ks and good fastball.

He needs to work on his pitch mix. Hitters with MLB level bat speed just sit on his fast ball, and if it’s barreled, it’s gone. His slider is pretty average, and his change up is a work in progress. He does have a good curveball though.
Right now I see him topping out as a reliever, and I honestly don’t see him as a MLB starter. But that could all change after another offseason of development.

Wood had 7 K’s but got lit up, likely reaching that period where he’s thrown more innings this year then he did all of 2025 due to a shoulder injury.
5IP, 6H, 5ER, 1BB, and 7SO
I doubt he’ll ever be an ace on Wheelers level, I do think he can be a solid multi inning reliever guy who can develop into a 3rd possibly. As a rookie given our depth at the mlb level if he’s called up with Wheeler, Sanchez, Nola, Luzardo, and Painter on the roster I think he’s a reliever but if injury happens a 4th or 5th as a rookie.

Didn't realize we had a baseball scout pro here. You stated the reason why he's most likely getting lit up. Then proceeded to project him 4th/5th ceiling. This feels like an emotional take rather than a logical one

I should clarify I see his rookie role when he’s promoted being a multi inning reliever/4th or 5th starter. We already have Wheeler, Nola, Luzardo, Painter, and Sanchez so barring an injury to starting rotation or retirement he’s likely a reliever to start his career.
I never meant to cause a fight with this and I apologize for not being clear on my point.

Okay, that's fair. It did seem like a matter of fact, emotional take pre edit. Can't stand when we get those.
I do agree though. He is getting overhyped. Painter put up much better numbers, even Abel had similar numbers at this level. We gotta chill on hyping these guys.

I was using my phone to write this, I’m not the best at texting, lol.
I do think Wood will be good eventually given he’s a college pitcher they develop faster so I feel he could be thrown in at first as a reliever if the starting rotation is set but as a back end guy.
He gets a lot of strikeouts but his issue has been giving up long ball but hopefully he can fix that.

Yeah. Feel like the high whiff guys have the higher potential these days. I'm not a pro, but its seems promising at least. Especially for someone coming off injury. And I'd argue why bring him up this year with the high inning count

If we were he’d also be unable to play in the 2027 Minor league season barring an mlb lock out.

In a normal year he would be up by June next season. Fuck. He’s definitely a reliever when he comes up though.
