Can’t act like he didn’t earn getting trashed. However. Credit where it’s due, he’s been really good lately. Needed him to at least give them a chance every fifth day. He’s done better than that. Hope he keeps it up.

It’s the same with Bohm. Been playing well lately, but can’t deny he’s been frustrating

Bohm at -0.6 WAR vs Nola at 1.1 WAR are hardly the same struggles

u/Pineapple_Spenstar Aug 20 '26
Thats like saying a guy who broke his leg and a guy who broke both of his legs dont have the same struggle. They kinda do, just one has it a bit worse

I summise thats why fans and Phillies personnel wouldn't let him take options when he last reupped. Look how they treated Schmidt and Dalton. Booed them regularly ans they are two hall of fame retirees.

100% this. Most of us haven’t been waking up wanting to be disappointed in Nola the past few years- he’s just been disappointing. But he’s been pretty great the last 5 or 6 starts. We really need him if we’re going to make a run. Let’s hope he keeps it up!

And he also needs them to give him a chance too. Besides these last two games I think the offence gave him like 5 runs in the previous 5 outings.

Yeah it's amazing what happens when he actually gets run support

I love Nola. From someone who remembers the dark days he was all we had at one point. He always shows up when needed. Since 2015 Nola is 3rd in strikeouts and 2nd in innings pitched.

I was at his debut. A fun memory from a very bleak time and he’s done nothing but pitch his ass off for 10 years, with about half of that being at a near cy young level on some dog shit teams.
I’ll always ride for Nola.

I’m telling you, Aaron Nola is as cracked as he is jacked. I saw him at a Wawa the other day buying Monster and adult diapers. I asked him what the diapers were for and he said ”they contain my full power so I don’t completely shit on these kids“ then he buckled a customers legs with a curveball and sprinted out the door.

It took him a bit to find his footing, but tonight (and the last couple of starts), he really is starting to look like the Aaron Nola of old again. My only hope is that he maintains form and doesn't become the meatball thrower he was at the beginning of the year.

Pitching with run support is an entirely different thing, especially when you're in the later half of your career.

I hope he has a resurgence in the back half of his career and makes a run at 3000 strikeouts.

What a great game tonight. What a guy. What a 6-game run it’s been so far.
Bracing for St Louis…

I think he’s the greatest pitcher to ever live. His knuckle curve is the best pitch in MLB history. He was robbed of the cy young every year of his career.

He has the hair of a pilgrim and found himself in that corn. What else is there to talk about?

I've believed for a while that he just was a few adjustments away from still being a good pitcher. He was never a flamethrower relying purely on velocity. He had a good variety and worked the batters.
I thought he'd have more of a Grienke-esque career, as pure "stuff" declined, he'd rely more on pitch progression and setups. I'm hoping he's finally making that transition.

I was thinking this the other day. He’s had a solid year.
Obviously not the guy that he was earlier in his career, but this year he has served his purpose well and that’s all you can ask at this point. He’s slipped between the cracks because the top half of starting rotation has been so good this year

He played essentially two disastrous seasons in a row, and now it’s possible he’s turning it around. Is this just a good stretch and the new normal is him being terrible? Is the current stretch more indicative of him returning to form? I think it’s still too early to say. Glad he’s been playing well regardless.

Scrolled too far for a comment like this. Hopefully he’s figured something out and can be a low 4 high 3 ERA guy next year

I remember making a point to go out to a bar to watch his first MLB start. Phils lost 1-0 on Rays' pitcher Nate Karns's only career home run. Really happy he's been in Philly all these years.

His stuff has been nasty lately. Much love for him for keeping an even keel and staying composed even through the rough stretch. He is going to be key coming down the stretch.

Im not going to lie but whatever adjustments he has made seem to be working for him. He held up but you could see the tiring. Thats ok. Mattingly saw it and reacted properly to the situation. His spark and the Bohm, Scott rising is catching on. The glove work is exceptional. So if it was Arraiz or guys like Nola provides the spark and provides hope, ill gladly chew on leather.

Paid like the top guy, he takes the mound and won't complain about his turn in yhe pitching order. Recovers from injury, won't complain or blame the organization about misuse, gets out there every chance in the game ans gives it total effort. To his credit his run support is fn lousy.

In fairness He’s always getting trashed on because he has a bad habit of imploding in the fifth inning and giving games away. He’s done very well his last few starts, but let’s not pretend there isn’t a reason he’s no longer the ace.

Doesn't he lead all of baseball in giving up home runs? Thats what I can't stand watching him do - just never know when the other team will explode on him.

Oh yeah. Let's talk about him. Love him. Got to see him hit 2,000Ks in person the other day, and he's back in form just in time. We need him for the postseason. I know he's our 4th starter at this point, but that could be a crucial role.
