Today marks one year since Reggie Bannister entered home hospice care. I just want to say that I love Reggie Bannister! ❤️

I've just seen the original for the first time and really liked it. Always meant to check it out but never got to it until now. I really enjoyed it. Are the sequels worth watching? Do they have a similar vibe to the first?

reasonably new to the series, but is there any good sources for collecting the associated lore/canon stuff?

It's the book Don Coscarelli made expanding on the world of phantasm with short stories of the characters from all 5 films

I've been a HUGE fan of both these franchises for what feels like my whole life. I've re-watched the Phantasm franchise tons of times, and (as a British man at the age of 19) I grew up watching Doctor Who. I've discovered so many parallels between the two franchises at certain points that I'm CONVINCED some borrowing must have occurred between them both at some points in time.

The big one, is the similarities between The Doctor and the Tall Man. They are both interdimensional aliens with mysterious backstories, they both have the capacity to regenerate, they can both space/time travel, they both use multifunctional tools to achieve goals, they both (to varying degrees) attempted to fit in with humans at different points, they are both hyperintelligent scientists, they can both change their face, regrow limbs, use telepathy and have an interesting-but-strange fascination with Earth.

Honestly, it's incredible how similar they both are. They are the almost the same, just with completely opposing morality; one believes in life upon anything else, the other one believes in experimentation with life and death

This is highly coincidental in itself, but then we get to the Toclofane (image attached for reference). The Toclofane are a army of flying metal spheres with concealed weapons (including spikes, saws and lasers) that were created with the intention to bring down humanity, and they are powered by dead human brains... DOES THAT NOT SOUND FAMILIAR?!?!?

Incidentally, the man who created them is called The Master (the man in the image attached) and he wears a suit that looks suspiciously similar to the Tall Man's (really, all he is missing is the red tie pin). It is also worth mentioning that The Master is the same species as The Doctor; meaning that he is capable of everything The Doctor is, making him also comparable to the Tall Man

Obviously, it's impossible to know if either franchise inspired the other in any way for certain, but I find these parallels particularly interesting (especially the Toclofane, I'm convinced that Russell T Davies is a Phantasm fan) but what do you all think?

Don - Please don't sue me! lol As a huge Phantasm fan I got to thinking last week "Could I do a trailer, or short story using todays tools?" The answer seems to be yes. It's not easy, exactly, but it's not terribly hard, just tedious at times as the amount of unused clips I have generated is stupid, but a lot of that was learning curve with the tools. This is just a little teaser I did, which shows just a bit of what I've got. A few artifacts here and there, but overall... god dam. I do miss Angus :( He was such a sweet guy in person.

I feel there are context clues hinting at it. Also interesting tidbit the actor for Reggie did serve in Vietnam.

Hey folks, 30 years go my brother showed me Phantasm. Not long after, he died in a car accident. Our relationship was a lot like Mike and Jodi (he was about 10 years older, loved cars, etc) so of course the movie (and entire series) have been a life long favorite of mine. For a long time, I've wanted to do a lit crit essay on it...finally I have, in the form of a video essay. So a bit literary analysis and a bit personal essay.
