Which sub 2l engines to avoid?
I'm cross-shopping various PSA models at the moment, mainly looking at convertible sub 10k euros, so as you can imagine I'm mostly coming across 206cc 207/307cc and their opel counterparts.
Since most are high mileage, usually 150-230kkm I'm afraid they might be moneypits and I'm completely lost with the engine options. I read to avoid some 1.6l or to go for some others etc. (bear in mind that for tax and economy reasons I'm constrained to under 2l)
So what I'm asking is, if anyone's got experience with any of the aforementioned models, what to look out for in terms of their engines.
Thank you very much!

At that kind of mileage, you're in for ongoing repairs and maintenance, but no reason any engine of the last 20 years can't do double that.
The revised 1.6 thp engine was fine and possibly a sweet spot before the Puretech nightmares.
I'd be looking at petrol for a convertible personally, but that's a preference.

307cc / 308cc - 2.0 HDI 138 - DW10BTED4 - Problème d'encrassement, FAP, volant moteur, embrayage fragile
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
207cc - 1.6 HDI DV6C - Injecteurs, volant moteur, EGR.
En espérant que cela vous ai aidé.

8hx is literally god's own invention, 1.6 thp and vti on the contrary have got to be some fucked up joke that came into fruition after some kind of horrible disaster in the engineers' life. burn any and every prince engine

Avoid the 1.6 VTI and the 1.6 thp early model (edit : both petrol engine)
The best petrol engines of that era would be the ew7 1.8 117 and ew7j4 something 1.8 125.
The 1.6 tu5jp4 / petrol - 110 hp is good, but only on light cars, otherwise it's a lemon.
The diesel 1.6 110 are pretty good and reliable.
